Kankakee Grille New Buffalo — Restaurant in New Buffalo Township

Went for friends 40th birthday, we had drove from south bend which I love the one at that casino never issues. We had reservations, got seated and waited for about 10-15mins before friend went to get waitress to see about drink menu. We waited for our remaining party, asked to order appetizers delicious! Once remaining party came, we ordered all food. We were never asked about refills, I asked if my friend could get another drink, she said they’re plating food so she’ll do so once foods out, but seemed annoyed. Once refills and enjoyed our dinner, the waitress returned and another gentleman to start cleaning off tables. Almost felt like they were trying to get us out quickly. We knew that we could split the bill 11 ways, but the waitress returns with what we felt attitude. “I’m not sure if anyone told you, we can’t split this 12 ways” the most we can do is 2 ways.” Will clean tables while you figure it out. Well she returned and was asked if we could split 3 ways, she agreed. She sat there and just waited for us to hand over card, I asked about itemized she said yes once I have your card I’ll run and give it?? Some had cash we wanted to put towards it, but not offered that. She didn’t give anyone a bill until card in hand. My husband and I have visited Kankakee at several casinos. We have visited the New Buffalo location before also. We normally try to give restaurants a "3 strikes your out" approach. Kankakee in New Buffalo is on strike number 2. The online reservation is a great feature. Our server was good but seemed preoccupied with other things(the restaurant was slow at the time we ate) The food was horrible. We ordered calamari which was the only decent food we had. My husband ordered mac and cheese with chicken and it was so dry even the manager who came by said it looked very very dry. They took it back to remake it and it was barely edible a second time after 25 minutes waiting. My burger was also very dry and arrived barely warm. The fries were cold and not edible. We were both still hungry so we ordered the carrot cake to share. Definitely a pre-packaged and once frozen desert of you ask me. I'm not sure we will give them another try at the prices they charge. If our server wasn't so nice and the calamari wasn't the only good dish we had, it would be one star. You're better off going somewhere else if...

My friend Albert and I stopped in on Sunday 3/2/24. Albert didn't think that the food would be that good in a restaurant in a casino but I assured him he would be pleasantly surprised. Albert ordered the nachos and split pea soup...I know what a combination however Albert was in culinary heaven! I ordered the whitefish (that was pan fried) with mashed potatoes and green beans. This was the best whitefish I have ever had in a restaurant. Dinner was simply delicious. Definitely 5 stars all around. On Monday I couldn't forget about the delicious dinner we had had on Sunday so I jumped in my car and drove the 40 miles to the Four Winds Casino in New Buffalo, played a little craps then went for dinner at the Kankakee Grille. This time I had the crab cakes and ordered the surf and turf with mash potatoes and green beans. The surf and turf is a special for Mondays.
