La Molienda Cafe — Restaurant in New Haven

Big portions, lots of taste and good service. The "chicha morada" Peruvian drink is awesome. Sweet non alcoholic drink. We did not have any appetizers, and I'm glad we did not order them. The plates were huge! An order of "Ceviche Mixto" (seafood salad) with either tostones or yucca had great taste. The "Tallarin a la Ocaina with Beefsteak" (Pasta in a Peruvian sauce) was very flavorful. The steak was hard, so I would not recommend the steak. Our kids had the "Salchipapas" (sliced hotdogs with fries) and they loved it. We ordered this appetizer plate for them, because they do not have a kids menu. But his plate was huge! I do not know how is this an appetizer. ...

So the food was “decent” (using sparingly, it was marinated well but the quality of steak in the lomo was similar to beef jerky) but it was a very strange experience upon arrival there were no employees😂 finally a lady sitting at the bar sat us Turns out she was a “bartender” but she only makes drinks if you are at the bar and when she’s not serving beer she’s knocking them back. The chef/waiter/bus boy/bartender did a fantastic job but he can’t run this business by himself. Also upon arrival he wasn’t able to be found. This trip was overall definitely and experience but I won’t be going back and I don’t suggest...

Pleasantly surprised with the food quality and portions.

Starters was a complimentary plate of fried white corn with cucumber sauce. These were super sized white corn salted, and when combined with the dipping sauce, it became a delectable snack which surpasses peanuts. Next came the fried yellow plantains (Maduros), and the Arroz Chaufa (Chinese Peruvian fried rice). I can certainly validate to the Chinese portion of the description.

The plantains were fried well. Good texture.

The server was personable, friendly and efficient.
