Wah-Chun Chinese Restaurant — Restaurant in New Haven

I’ve patron this place since 1985 and I think it’s time to take my loyalty else where. This was once New Haven’s best tasting Chinese food in the whole county! They have lost integrity! I don’t appreciate spending my money for fried rice that comes outta a rice cooker sitting losing flavor with the ingredients already mixed in that hasn’t even touched a WOK! A whole different recognizable ,pasty taste ,that’s basically mushy rice with tasteless overcooked pork .Very very insulting to watch my food be prepared in this manner. Can’t call it fried rice. I had been suspicions and asked about the taste of the overcooked mushy tasteless rice several times, I knew I was gonna see what I had been thinking the whole time, by ordering my food from the cell them stand and watch. Only to see it done today and when I confronted I was told a bold face lie. I watched him do it! THE FRIED RICE IS WHAT KEPT ME COMING BACK for the unique, distinct taste. 🧐 or is it only done for preferred customers? My chicken was discolored and old and tasted refried . Perhaps standards have changed drastically! Today was the final for me, and I’m sure they don’t care🤷🏽‍♂️! But when your rice has that starchy, raw, uncooked but yet mushy texture & taste just know it hasn’t touched the WOK. Those who know food can detect. This method is cool for white plain rice. When a place loses integrity and cut corner sacrificing the quality of food it’s time to shut the doors! I’m gonna miss what use to be nothing short of THE BEST! I guess I’ll have to get use to a different place that still values the customer. I did not enjoy my food at all! As a trained cook of 26 years it’s very insulting to think I was gonna keep on paying for less than desirable, subpar, corner cutting antics! The Excuse was that they were busy, but yet I was the only person in the lobby watching the WHOLE TIME 🤨 ! Today...

The food itself is one of my favorites in the new haven area, with just one other to go place above it. Unfortunately timing is NOT their thing. Once in awhile the food will show up so fast you wonder how they had time to cook it, but most times it could take almost two hours to be delivered. The place is close to me, but the the parking lot has a good amount of crack heads loitering, so I prefer delivery. They are cash only which would be ok if they delivered by the estimated time, but you can't leave your house even to walk the dog because your food can't be left at the door. 15 minutes and two hours is a big difference. Overall; food is great/ always hot, delivery time very unpredictable and not as stated, food prep/delivery tracking does not work. If you order from here don't wait til you're hungry, walk your dog before ordering, and if you need to leave and/ take your family somewhere in the near future order from somewhere else. The food is probably the best in the area. However I’d suggest picking it up, because their delivery service is awful. We order from work for the office, and we gave them a couple chances. The first time the driver called and said come outside, and handed me the bag through the car window while the smoked marijuana with a friend in the car. The second time again they told us to come outside, but not as bad of an experience. The third time they said come outside again, and they forgot one of our items but charged us for it. We called and they said they would deliver it. (It seemed like a driver issue again not a restaurant issue) We had to call again when an hour had passed, and the item had clearly been sitting that whole time.
