My wife and I have been eating breakfast here for over 2 years. We normally get the exact same items each and every visit. We go there enough that we know what we're going to order and how much the total will be before we go in. The last 2 visits we have been sticker shocked by a total that is nearly double the normal amount. The first time it happened it was busy and we didn't realize the big difference until we were walking out, we even joked that we know exactly how much cash to normally bring. Then it happened again this morning, we were charged nearly double again. This time we brought it to the attention of the staff checking us out... she acted surprised that WE were confused. After we mentioned multiple times that our bill seemed incorrect, we asked what the prices were for each item. It was at that point that the staff told us that we were being charged a dollar extra per order for the cheese on the menu items, And who knows what else. This is both disappointing and frustrating, since the items on the menu already include prices for "with" and "without" cheese. The food has always been great, but having the prices nearly double for a basic breakfast, and not have any signs, notes, or heads up that we are going to be charged twice for something is very shady. I hope this was an isolated incident, we really have always loved Kim's. Please update your menu to reflect what I'm going to be charged or if prices have temporarily increased, inform...
Read moreWe were there on Sept. 1st for breakfast. I ordered 3 eggs, bacon, hash browns, toast, coffee and orange juice. When the waitress asked how I wanted my eggs, I told her over easy. She asked me rudely, "So, you want your whites runny?" I told her no, I wanted the whites solid; the yolks runny. She rolled her eyes and told me, "Bless your heart! You must not be from around here. Here in Louisiana, how you want your eggs is called 'medium'. We don't 'do' over easy!" I currently live in Iowa, I have lived on each coast and Oklahoma and I have traveled extensively. I have never had anyone tell me they 'don't do eggs over easy'. After she finished taking our order and walked away, the next table over from ours ordered their eggs over easy! Our food, when it was done, sat at the window for 15 minutes before she picked it up and brought it to our table. Not only was our food cold, but all three of my eggs were fried solid. Horrible experience all the way around. Horrible service...
Read moreOne cold and drizzly night in the winter of last year, I hit Kim's Kitchen very, very late in the evening. I had a craving for a stout meat-n-potatoes meal.
Historically, I order chicken fried steak with white gravy no matter what diner I visit, but on this particular occasion, I wanted a fat, juicy beef patty.
I ordered the hamburger steak, WITH CHEESE, drowning in brown gravy, sided with creamed potatoes and green beans.
Folks...it was hands-down THE best hamburger steak I ever had in my life. It tasted the way a real American hamburger steak ought to taste: hearty, juicy, cheesy, succulent...substantial.
That was a special night. I don't know who the chef was, but I sent my congratulations and tipped well.
I've had the hamburger steak a few times since then, and the experience has never quite paralleled the one of that dark, stormy night last winter. However, I have to say...the best hamburger steak I ever had, was had at Kim's Kitchen in little...
