Mesa Vista Cafe — Restaurant in New Mexico

Back on November 2016, my husband and I went to Ojo Caliente for our first time. It was around Thanksgiving. I think it was actually Thanksgiving day and during lunch time, we were hungry and were looking for a place to grab a bite. We saw Mesa Vista cafe so we stopped but when we went in someone let us know they were having a private family lunch and the restaurant was closed to the public. As we were leaving, one of the owners came out and said we were welcomed to join them. We were so grateful and didn't want to intrude, but she insisted and her husband also invited us in. It was amazing to sit down and share such a wonderful lunch with a large family. Sorry it took this long to write this review, life has happened... But we have never forgotten your generosity and warm...

The food is excellent for what it is. If you are accustomed to healthy, fancy, creatively done food, then this is not your place. It is a diner with a diverse menu from burgers to burritos. Their green chili is always good. The portions are reasonable, you won't go away hungry. The service is so friendly. This is a really nice, down to earth little spot and the prices are very reasonable as well. The french fries are always good. I usually get a bean burrito enchilada style with green chili. Yes, they have malts too! When I am at Ojo Caliente I always make a point of coming to Mesa Vista for at least one meal. Twice I've had bad experiences at the nice looking taqueria down the street. We stopped in here on the way to Ojo Caliente Hot Springs. Does not look like much on the outside but the food was great. The service was friendly and smiling (not as regular to see as I would like). Very local type place with a good variety on the menu. Had both American dishes like fried steak and Mexican dishes.

We had the sampler combination plate and wife had the green chili stew. Both tasted great. They were out of the homemade cobbler and a few of the other homemade desserts as we came by at the end of the day.
