I would have to say that my night at River & Henley was one of the WORST dining experiences I've ever had. The problems were many but I'll confine my displeasure to the two serious issues that turned this evening into a nightmare:
One of our foursome ordered a pizza and was told that "pizzas are taking a little longer tonight. . Is that okay?" 30 minutes later, the pizza still had not arrived, prompting me to get up and take a peek at the pizza oven. Strangely, there were no pizzas in the oven! 45 minutes? Still no pizza. (Throughout this wait it was impossible to flag down a server.) The rest of our party were finishing their meals so we decided that even if the pizza came at this point, we would refuse it. At this point, I realized I had left my credit card in the car and I ran out to get it. That's when nightmare number two began.....
As I re-entered the restaurant, a stocky employee stepped in front of me and threw his hands up, shouting, "there's a $10 cover charge, CHIEF.". I smiled, and said " oh I'm just going back to my table". I again made the move to enter and again he stepped in front of me saying, "well, if you're coming in now, you're going to pay a $10 cover charge, CHIEF.". Exasperated, I appealed to the hostess behind him telling her that "he won't let me in and I'm in the middle of a meal!" She stood there, expressionless, not offering to help at all. I argued again, pointing to my table in the back of the restaurant, trying to explain to these dolts that I'd only stepped out for a minute to go to my car. I was stunned. I couldn't believe that I was arguing to get back into my restaurant where I was already a paying customer! " Finally, as my own temper reached a boiling point, I saw my waitress in the distance and shouted to her, "he won't let me in!!!!" She confirmed that I was seated at a table. Practically shaking, I was finally allowed into the restaurant, and after this ordeal, it was probably the last place on Earth I wanted to be! We quickly got our bill at which point the pizza arrived! The manager came over to apologize for what happened at the entrance and she did take the pizza off the tab. Still, my nerves were shot, and I was sick to my stomach. To make matters worse, as I exited, the bouncer/ employee got in my face, and said in a threatening manner, "did you take a picture of me?" Without answering, I brushed aside his verbal assault and exited the building, NEVER TO RETURN.
(By the way, yes I did take a picture because I wanted to have some photographic evidence of this Neanderthal to share with management should they...
Read moreTO be fare I visited this Bar and Restaurant in Dec when they first had a soft opening and was very disappointed. My partner felt to be fair I should give them another try. We have visited twice in Feb and are really amazed how they were able to transfer everything to a positive experience! They changed staff and I could not be more pleased with the bartending skills of Darren their new bartended . Quick, Professional and Very Sociable. Pours a Good Drink at reasonable prices. The food has greatly improved. Came out fast and hot and everything tasted very good. The greatest improvement was the Staff especially the enthusiasm of the owners. They were totally involved in all aspects of the resturant with GREAT interaction with the customers. I generally never give 5 stars BUT the Time, Effort and Thought ownership has place in turning the bar and restaurant around deserves the recognition!!!!!
The have been some postings on the limited menu. It has expanded !!!!! When I inquired They like all good restaurants they are having a hard time finding a Chef and Cooking staff that they are Comfortable expanding the menu at this time They want everything that comes out of the kitchen to be the best it can be. If you are in or live in the New Milford area you really need to give this much improved Bar/ Restaurant a try. The Art work on the back wall is impressive. Very nice place to hang out for a couple hours. Not many places around in these times you can get a good drink and good food at...
Read moreI recently visited River and Henley and it quickly became one of my favorite sports bars in town. The atmosphere is exactly what you’d want from a sports bar lots of big screens everywhere, ensuring there’s never a bad seat in the house. Whether you’re watching football, basketball, or even a lesser known sport, they’ve got it covered.
The bar staff was friendly and quick with service, which is always a plus on busy game days. The drink selection was impressive, with a wide variety of beers on tap, including local craft brews, plus creative cocktails. Prices were reasonable, especially during happy hour, and the specials are worth keeping an eye on.
The food was much better than your typical sports bar fare. We tried the wings, nachos, and burgers, all of which were flavorful and generously portioned. The wings, in particular, had a great variety of sauces and were crispy yet juicy inside.
There’s plenty of seating, including comfy booths and high-tops, and the vibe is always lively without being too rowdy. Whether you’re with a group of friends or just popping in to catch a game solo, River and Henley is a top choice for great food, drinks, and a perfect game-watching experience!...
