Why is Burhops, the most reputable fish monger in Chicago selling a fish deemed toxic? Why was it even in their stock?
Burhops has been around for as long as I can remember, but something happened there recently that has made me wonder long and hard about who is currently managing the place. I had told them about my health problems and asked them to warn me away from any fish that could be dangerous for me (liver issues), I spotted a fish I'd never heard of before (always like to try new things) asked them if it was OK for me, they promised it was, grilled it up for me... etc., when I got home, AFTER eating a bit, I googled it and discovered that there was a MASSIVE ADVISORY AGAINST EATING IT!!! They seem to have “regulars” whom they did greet and offered a soup sample. I was offered nothing. I will give it two stars instead of 1 because someone did assist me with what items to buy when I was unsure of what I needed. Other than that, this was the worst service I’ve ever received. Maybe if they know you, you wont have a problem. Due to the stellar reviews, I really wanted to like this place and purposely didn’t purchase the seafood at the grocery store so I could get it here. I won’t make that...

My mom LOVES seafood and I brought her here on recommendation of Google so she could get high quality fish. She was in this store for only a few minutes and wanted to leave. She said the fish was not fresh and it was also really really expensive. We ended up just going to Whole Foods where she got this beautiful fresh whole red snapper for way less than what was sold at Burbop’s. I understand if things are premium, they cost more. But the seafood here did not seem premium and...
