Dolphin's Gourmet Deli — Restaurant in New York

Just had a very poor experience with the cashier. I was purchasing a sandwich (#9), $6.00 on the large board and the menu. When it was put through the register it came up as (Custom) $6.24. When I mentioned to the cashier the discrepancy she had a blank look on her face, then she said it’s how they ring up, it’s the “company’s fault, …it included tax”; basically anything but a reasonable and logical answer. Why wouldn’t the register separate the sales tax (NYC 4.5%)? If they did, they would have charged the correct amount for the sandwich and the tax ($6.00 sandwich + 4.5% sales tax .27¢ total of $6.27).
