Ordering from here was a BIG MISTAKE. I lived in China for several year and I know real Chinese food. I also lived in NYC most of the rest of my life and know good NYC chinese food (Wohop!)
This food was an insult to their ancestors. Perhaps they have a white man as a chef, because a real chinese cook would have shame to serve this. Let me break it down:
"House Special" Wonton Soup: Bad! Full of bland, fatty meat, meat cut too big, (shrimp had bad smell/rotten taste too) with ONLY 2 WONTON! Too much extra garbage, no focus on quality.
Roast Pork Bun: Bad! Clearly from a frozen/pre-packaged box. Arrived stone cold. Cheap & Lazy.
Crab Rangoon: BAD & STRANGE! The wrapper was more doughy and not fried to a crisp. And was not a normal wonton wrapper, but some kind of yeast dough. The filling was too much, with a bad spice flavor. Very odd & shows lack of experience in cooking.
Egg Foo Young: Bad! Egg disks were TOO BIG and UNDERCOOKED because of it. Eggs mushy, not firm. Smelly eggs too, not fresh. Gravy was BAD. There are 2 schools of egg foo young gravy, the good kind you get on the north shore that is yellow from tumeric and tastes flavorful of chicken broth. This was the bad kind - dark brown, using anise and five spice. Very gross. Shame should be felt for sending this out.
Finally, the worst offender:
Moo Shu Beef - the ingredients were wrong. Good resturants add black ear mushroom, regular mushroom, celery or bamboo shoots. This had only onions, egg and beef. The onions were cooked to mushy slop. There was no spice, no flavor, no sauce. But worst of all, instead of rice paper to roll up, they sent FLOUR TORTILLA from mexican food! What? This should be illegal! My chinese friend's grandmothers are hurt in their soul by this. Because I am not chinese you think you can play games with me and fool me? You must think customer is very stupid to serve me this. Lazy and sloppy. Dishonorable.
Rice was also WAY overcooked mushy, no plastic forks or spoons, and even though I spend 50$ not even a free can of soda.
This place is only safe to order western basics like candy chicken. Do not expect them to make it like 祖母 grandmother. Very bad, very insulting.
*Edit: Upon calling resturant to address these issues, they first pretend to not understand. But I speak chinese to them so they cannot pretend. Then a boy gets on phone and says "This is not china, we use tortillas always." and has smart, sarcastic answers for everything. No apology, no humility. Dishonorable! They say "so don't order again!" and hang up.
I will make sure...
Read moreWhen it comes to the Southern Shore of Staten Island being from othe parts of the city like Harlem and Queens, you wouldn't think much of the Chinese restaurants in the area, especially coming from where the belief is the "dirtier looking the restaurant, the better the food taste".. Well in this case and much to my surprise.. The food here is actually pretty good given the location.. The store itself is very clean.. The service I can say is relatively fast and friendly.. I don't recall ever waiting more than 20 minutes for my order unless they were slammed during a busy lunch rush or weekend crowds.. I've ordered from here enough times that they know who I am which is a plus.. It's always good to have a cordial relationship with those who prepare your food if you intend to visit a restaurant frequently.. Here at this location.. The food always taste freshly prepared and not some throw away order that the previous customer changed their mind about, and they serve it to you like a lot of restaurants do.. (Quiet as kept).. They do have their traditional menu that you can get from pretty much any Chinese restaurant.. But they do have a good selection of soups and noodle choices for those of you who like the closest thing to Ramon.. My favorite food items are their fried chicken wings.. The steamed shrimp dumplings are another favorite and maybe the closest dish I've had to some dumplings I've had years ago at a restaurant in Chinatown.. I do recommend you try this place at least once if you just so happen to be in the neighborhood.. You won't be...
