As you walk in, you are greeted with the most wonderful smells of pastries and chocolate. I know they are known for their babka and after seeing the fresh baked babka loaves in person, I can see why. They looked heavenly and smelled amazing. I told the owner I'll take a nice sized chunk and figured the old measuring with the fingers to describe my preference worked. I ended up with about a 3/4 lb chunk of babka that will last me for at least 2 days. They also price this by the weight and my piece was around $10 which I think is pretty reasonable!
The owner was also super friendly, and even gave me a small piece of the babka trim off the piece I bought on the house, which was the best little slice of babka I have ever had! It's pretty rich in a good way so I didn't even start to tackle the piece of babka I bought until later in the day. You get the ooey gooey chocolate mixed with the softness of the bread which makes for such a delicious experience. It would probably also go really well with a glass of milk! They had a bunch of different other baked goods I wish I would've tried but maybe next time! The city is lucky to have a spot like this, and I appreciate that the owner is also involved as it makes it feel more authentic...
Read moreAlright, Bubby - sit down, be quiet, and listen. Chances are, if you are reading this, you have no clue. Welcome to Williamsburg, Brooklyn, home to one of the largest concentrations of Chasidic / Ultra-Orthodox Jews in the world. Oneg Bakery is in the midst of its literal world. Be respectful to the men working at this location; They are swamped. Yes - all the hype is true; this is quite possible. Why don't we just be honest? This is where the greatest Babka on planet Earth can be found. Anyways - You get what you pay for. They take credit cards. Parking doesn't exist; however, I was fortunate enough to see some on a Friday afternoon. Don't be a shmuck; they have one flavor of Bobka only. This is not your typical Jewish Bakery; again, they specialize in Babka; they have a few other items that are simply delicious. It is a school and an authentic place. It's worth the shlep! The staff was very kind and facilitated carrying my 4 Bobkas to my pickup truck. I made some people back in North Carolina very happy. Challah...
Read moreI want to sing the praise for this fine establishment. A business with integrity and respect for their customers. Recently relocated to Florida, I ordered a large challah for my daughter's wedding. When the challah arrived, it clearly was not large enough for a wedding reception. With the wedding being only two days away, I was frustrated and upset. I immediatly placed a call to find a gentleman on the other end of the phone who only wanted to "make it right." He took my name and address and promptly sent a refund check. While I was still without challah for the upcoming wedding, my experience will certainly compel me to purchase all of my future kosher baked goods from Oneg Bakery. Thank you for your wonderful...
