I went to this restaurant two summers ago and from what I remember I had a good experience. I visited again this summer and unfortunately this experience was far than memorable. Upon entering there were no hosts and after standing in the front for a while without any direction a young woman approached us. We said we wanted a table for two. She proceeded to say the restaurant had reservations and we could sit in a middle communal table or at the bar. Taking a look around most of the booth tables and the tables in the back were empty so I'm not sure how much truth there was to what she said. Sure, we sat in the middle communal table. We were given menus to look at. The menu sounded appetizing. There were several waiters from what it seemed walking around and yet it took a longer than usual time to get some water. When we finally got water from one waiter, he walked away so fast we could not give him our order, even though we were ready. Another waiter then came, and said he would be taking our orders. He wrote our orders down on a notepad and then repeated our food orders back to us. This I appreciate, as I used to wait on tables in college and what better way to ensure you got the order down correctly. Strangely the waiter made fleeting eye contact and seemed a little under the influence. But it was a hot afternoon, maybe he was dealing with something else to seem so disheveled. Well I went to the bathroom, when I came back my partner shared we were served an appetizer and it wasn't what we ordered so he had sent it back to the kitchen. That was strange to me seeing as the waiter wrote down the order and even repeated it but alas we shrugged it off. We noticed other guests around us getting their food brought out, getting their food orders promptly taken and even having the waiters check up on them. Our waiter was missing in action for a while until he approached us and said the kitchen did not process our order, and he would have to submit it again and then he followed to ask us to restate what we ordered. We decided to ask for the check at this time for the incorrect guacamole that was finally brought correctly soon after. I was extremely confused with the simple fact of blaming the kitchen for not processing an order that I observed you writing down in your notepad. So the lack of communication and/or organization between the waiter, his notepad and the kitchen still doesn't make sense. The waiter was not apologetic nor seemed phased by his lack of customer service. We felt rather marginalized and after looking around I realized we were the only Hispanic guests in the restaurant. It is 2019, and if our race was the underlining reason for this ordeal, it is quite sad. After this terrible dining experience my partner and I will not be returning to the restaurant. We have already spoken to our friends and family to avoid this restaurant after having a beach day...
Read moreI visited Pico recently for dinner and had a bad experience, mostly because the hostess and the waiter were indifferent to my presence and that of my companion in the restaurant. They actually came across as quite rude. I arrived at Pico at 4:30 p.m. on a Friday with a friend for dinner and drinks. Though this tiny restaurant was empty except for 1 couple at the bar, I stood in the doorway and the hostess (standing just a foot away) ignored me as she arranged menus at a small table. I literally said hello to her 2 times, but it was as if she was deaf. Eventually, after several awkward moments, I asked if we could sit in one of the empty booths, and she responded "I don't know." Another hostess arrived on scene, and said we could have a booth for 2 hours because "it was Friday night" and "they had reservations." Again, the place was empty. This was only the beginning. Then we had the waiter, whose name was Sean. While he was effective at taking the order, and our food arrived promptly, he not once checked on the table to ask how things were going. I had to waive him down twice to get a second drink, which arrived after I was mostly done with my meal. When it came time for the bill, he basically threw it on the table without a word and turned to a different table to take their order. Not a word spoken. It was extremely rude. The restaurant was not even close to being full at this time, about 5-6 tables were occupied. I still tipped 20%, even though given this service, it should have been 10%. On the way out, the same hostess that ignored me and my friend on our entrance ignored us on the way out. She stood at the door and stared at us as we left. No "thanks for coming" or "have a good evening." Mind you, this is a tiny restaurant, not some large establishment where the hostess is a behind a counter. My friend even said "thank you" to her, but not a word back. Extremely rude. My recommendation to the establishment is to train your employees on basic etiquette and creating a welcoming environment for patrons, otherwise those patrons will start thinking about going elsewhere. My recommendation for anyone considering Pico is to think about whether you want to give your money to a place that shows zero appreciation for you, lacks basic skills in hospitality, and actually seems to think that they are doing...
Read moreBe very careful! I got food poisoning from this place. I think it was the Chorizo taco and I should have been more cautious. I walked in knowing that this restaurant has only a B rating.
My husband and I are there and shared bites from each other's plate. I was the one who ordered the Chorizo taco. My husband didn't order that and didn't want a bite.
I believe that the restaurant tried to cover up the foul condition of the meat or whatever was in that taco by slopping on extra guacamole. If I was not distracted if would have made a fuss about the condition of the meat. It looked like a brown mash. I was hungry and tired. I decided not complain. I decided to cut them some slack.
I went home and I couldn't sleep all night because my stomach was hurting so much. I had a fever and chills and I couldn't drink much water because it didn't sit well in my stomach. I thought of calling an ambulance. I thought I had appendicitis. Fortunately, I finally I began to throw up on and off for two hours. I threw up until I felt a little better. I finally fell asleep at 6 a.m and then had to take a shower and run to work.
Be very careful! Inspect your plate before consuming. If something looks or smells strange quickly tell someone. Don't put yourself through misery just because...
