This is a place that I have been dying to try. When I first walked in the host was very nice and courteous. I was guided to my table and given two menus (one food, one drinks). The menu has plenty of food options to choose from. I was torn between the Canoas de plátano and the yuca with chicarrón. I went with the Canoas de plátano and an arepa with cheese and jalapeño. I only had a glass of water to drink. The Canoas de plátano was listed as $18 and the arepa was around $3. The food was bland. The plátano was the sweet plantain (which I was even more excited about because I love the sweet plantains being used in savory dishes). I tried adding the pico de gallo to the dish, I tried putting some of the sauces on the meal. Each bite I was disappointed. When I refused a take home container the waitress asked me what didn’t I like about it, I told her and she was simply said ok and removed it from my table. The other waitress who had taken my order asked if I wanted the check and when she returned she asked why I didn’t like the food. I simply stated it didn’t have flavor, she then said that she could have brought me more crema if I needed it and that the food is cooked naturally. She then stood over me while I handed my card, when she returned with the slip for me to sign she stood over me waiting for me to sign. I didn’t sign until she walked away. Although the service was decent, it was the ending interaction that made me feel uncomfortable. I felt as if I had waisted $22.16 on food that was terrible and I was...
Read moreWent yesterday afternoon on July 19th. I called ahead to see if I needed to make reservations because of the Covid restrictions and the lady on the phone was rude. She seemed to be in a rush to take orders and not answer questions. My wife went ahead of me and was able to be seated without me. Which was courteous of the place. I got there 10 minutes later. 10 minutes passed and no one acknowledged us. We weren't told "I'll be with you in a moment" or anything. The staff seemed to be overwhelmed. Even though, it seemed to be about 14-15 tables. After 15 minutes, we asked if we could get menus and someone was able to give us some. At around the 20 minute mark, someone finally came to the table and asked us what we would like to have. Before we could say anything, the waitress says that it is a 45 minute to hour wait for the food. She claimed that it is because of all the orders. We wondered why they couldn't say this before seating my wife. We politely declined and said we were leaving. To which the waitress said that we should wait because by the time we go somewhere else and wait for the food, it will be the same thing. We said no thank you and walked off. We found a nice place, which wasn't as crowded and were served very quickly. Maybe it was a bad day. But I wont be back during the Covid...
Read moreWhile the food was excellent(thank you to the chef), the service made the experience subpar. Firstly, our waitress was absolutely rude and rushed us to order our food (mind you they were not busy, she spoke as if she were in an auction.) After that, we never saw her again. Then the bill came and tip was already included. And also she never asked us what size drinks we wanted and charged the greatest size. The waitress gave herself a 15% undeserved tip ($11) for a party of THREE and we were forced to pay it. I don’t have a problem paying for tip if the service is well deserved. There is no indication of this anywhere on the menu or any sign displayed in the restaurant. We asked the manager about this since it was never indicated that this was “the new rule.” He told us that it’s something new that all restaurants were doing after a specific time. We looked at the menu and it clearly says in blue that they charge 15% tip to a party of FIVE. If I ever come here again, it’s solely for take out. Terrible service. Tipping should be a choice. Because now that this is a “rule” it’s okay for you to get bad service since the waitresses know that they have to do the bare minimum...
