as if a little restaurant from Mexico City was magically transplanted to Whitestone.
The pastor tacos are somewhat comparable to those of the gold standard, Tacos Gordos on the West Coast.
The roast pork was fresh, warm and had just the right amount of fat to give super flavor, but not a super heart attack.
While I was disappointed by the fact that the restaurant did not have lengua and goat on a Tuesday (understandably, El Morelense only serves the "exotic" meats on the weekends), I was happy to delight in beef nachos and spicy pork nachos. I loved the concoction of the ample protein, shredded, sprinkled lettuce, light tomatoes, light cheese, and white sauce.
My dad wanted fresh jalapeĂąos, but I wasn't disappointed by the pickled ones.
The most pleasant surprise was the Horchata . I doubted the restaurant would carry the traditional drink since I didn't see the large rectangular tub with a cinnamon rice milk inside it; however, it was ordered, and regardless of where it came from, it was fantastic.
Allergy alert... the horchata has pecans in it.
It was the best Horchata I've ever tasted, and I've had my fair share.
I love the fact that the restaurant is family run. The daughter acts as a translator/aide but the mother's is English is suffice.

Read moreI have been here so much times since they opened and NEVER once have I had a bad experience or seen any of their other customers have one either. The owners of the restaurant and their kids are ALWAYS so friendly and kind to everyone. Their service is AMAZING. It is VERYYYY important to remember that this is FAMILY owned and ran business. They don't have any additional help. Usually it is just the mother and her daughter there, so of course there will be times where it gets slow. And yes it is possible for them to run out of supply even on busy days. It sucks coming into a restaurant and not getting what you hoped for but they have so much other delicious dishes you can try! Expand your palette and try new things. Theres no need to write things like they ran out this or not in a review because it's unnecessary. Things like this can HAPPEN in a restaurant. It is more common than you think.
In my opinion, the service, affordable pricing, and tasty food makes this place my go-to restaurant whenever I am...
Read moreIâve been meaning to come here when it was El Morelense so finally made the trip now that it is Zhumi. Food is so tasty and I knew it was going to be good from recommendations by others but it was better than expectationsâŚwhen I do my happy food dance at the first bite you know itâs good.
I had the Al Pastor Tostada and Beef Mulita (first time trying a Mulita) and I really liked they werenât greasy, especially the pork. The meat was not dried out, which Iâve experienced at other places. I added their green (mild spice) and red (hot/spicy) sauces which added another layer of flavor. Because it was still breakfast time, I also had the complimentary coffee - strong but not bitter. My boyfriend ordered the horchata and it was so good - there was a creaminess to it and not too sweet. Horchata Iâve had at other places are watered down and too sweet.
I really wanted to have a donut but was stuffed so will try next time. There are so many other...
