This is my first time going here. A coworker recommended it. I ordered the fried chicken, Mac n cheese, and yams. I also ordered pig feet... Omgoodness it's soooooooo good! Everything is delicious! The pig feet are tender and flavourful. I rated it 4 stars Bc I would have liked one additional piece of chicken. I think a 3pc would've been perfect with this dish! Other than that, I have no complaints. I'm currently still eating it. 🤤🤤🤤 I DO feel like I have to comment on the restaurant itself. Keep an open mind! It has a very old school southern feel. Nothing fancy about it all. I felt like I was transported back to South Carolina in a restaurant on a back road... You know... The kind all of the locals know about Bc their food is amazing! I'm definitely going back!

Caught them right before closing for takeout on Easter Sunday. This was my first time eating here despite riding past the restaurant basically all my life. Blown away by the food, easily some of the best soulfood in Newark. The oxtails and turkey wings were tender and flavorful. The mac and cheese and yams were perfect. The fried chicken was crispy and well seasoned, and the cabbage was decent as well. I’ll absolutely be back to try other dishes as well as their breakfast. Don’t be discouraged by the location or minimal online presence. This is a no-frills spot beats out a lot of the more overhyped/popular soul food restaurants, easily.

We were visiting from Toronto, Google had high ratings for this place, and we were craving soul food. Let me tell you how we instantly felt like family, warm welcomes, all smiles so much comfort. I felt like I knew them for years, it was a great way to end our weekend before our 7 hour drive back home. The food was BANGINGGGG omgggggg!! Seriously it was so good I got gravy on my forehead. I killed it! The cornbread was soooo moist oh man I'm hungry thinking about it again lol if you're in New Jersey definitely visit!

I was in Newark for a freelance gig and wanted to just find a regular joint to get some takeout for, and after a brief search, saw this place and it had good reviews. Well I am glad I went. It doesn't look like much, but I knew that from the photos - I went for the menu and food reviews. They didn't have a couple things but it didn't matter.

Smothered chicken, cabbage, potato salad, cornbread. It was all phenomenal. I ate it like a savage at home and I'm pretty sure my dog was judging me while I did. You can taste the home cooking love and soul that goes into this food. It's honest. I can't wait to go back to try the oxtail and smothered pork chop and other sides. Luckily I'm only 30...
