Smashburger — Restaurant in Newark

Really bad customer service. The employee was on her phone the whole time even when a guest was at the register. A couple of times she ignored the guest and kept talking ( leaning on the counter)and the customer walked away. Then she was eating on the counter near where the food comes out leaning on the counter). Then when the food came out she reached over and picked up a plastic glove and put it on the one had she was going to pick up the food with. It was in a wrapper but your supposed to wash your hands before putting on a glove. Especially when you are eating and using your phone. Then a person came over ( who they called Sonny) and said he was giving them the award.( That's what it sounded like. It was a paper that looked like something you would get for doing good). I don't know if he was an owner or manager but he said nothing about leaning on the counter. I guess there are not very many choices of food so they know if you want a burger you have to go there..??? Not sure. It was...

Per the business's request, I'm going to leave a longer review than I did originally. My overall impression is that this is about average for an airport restaurant (which is why most of the items below are judged on a curve) but otherwise pretty disappointing.

Food: The meat on the burgers was juicy but the toppings were disappointing. They didn't taste fresh at all and the mushrooms and cheese mixture on my speciality burger was completely out of proportion. About what I expected for an airport restaurant: edible but nothing more than that.

Service: The food was somewhat slow to come out (which is pretty surprising given that it's an airport and so there are a lot of people who want to eat in a hurry), but the staff was friendly so I'm giving it three stars.

My wife, son and I ate at Smashburger in Newark International Airport. We each had different variations of hamburgers with cheese. For me, it was my first time eating at a Smashburger.

I have to say. The hamburgers were GREAT!

My son departed for another country and about 36 hours later the 3 of us were sick with varying degrees of nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, achiness, and fevers of up to 101.2F. This is the only meal just the 3 of us had together, and we are the only ones we know who got sick. We've all recovered with the longest length of illness being a little over 24 hours.
