The very first time we came here, the food was amazing and the service was even better. We were chomping at the bit to return, even telling everyone we knew about this place. We’ve been back 4 times since, and each time the service was worse. The servers themselves ARE friendly- when we see them. Each of the 4 times we’ve been back, we’ve gotten asked for our initial food and drink order- and then literally didn’t see the server again. We had to ask random servers/hosts passing by, to please bring us our drinks, appetizers, or the check. And they’d say “yes, of course,” but then it never came. We just came from there tonight- our, “let’s give it another chance!” night- and we ordered our appetizer/drink with our server, and we didn’t see him again for the 2 hours we were there. Technically we saw him with our eyes, across the room- but he didn’t come back to our table and we couldn’t flag him down. After finishing our appetizer and first round of drinks, we asked the host (as he was passing by), if he could bring us another margarita and cosmo. He said “Absolutely!” and was so nice, we thought it’d be fine. But he never brought us the drinks. We waited 40 minutes, and finally we just asked him for our check when we saw him again. Those drinks weren’t even rung in on the bill, which is only good because we didn’t have to pay for something we never got.
We really, really love the food here. It’s fresh, delicious, fragrant, and flavorful- but to spend over 2 hours here and get a total of 2 drinks apeice and a shared appetizer, is seriously off-putting enough that we may not come back.
I’m not sure what happened between the first time we came, and every time since; but we are starting to think now, that the GOOD service was the fluke; and flighty, flakey service is the norm.
So upsetting, as like I said, the food is really, really delicious. But we’d like to actually EAT some, and enjoy the cocktails offered, rather than wait for anyone to notice our table for hours on end, and pay a hefty bill for lots of time ultimately wasted.
Beautiful place, great food, great drinks- but service that is dependent on random chance. I might be spending my $ elsewhere, as much as it pains me to say so. I’ve cancelled my girls’ night I planned for here, with my sisters and my mother, because I’m afraid we’d arrive and spend a lot of money for bad service, and things we order that might never come. It’s...
Read moreFood was quite good. I was there for a birthday dinner and service was quite abysmal.
First, we ordered sparkling and still water which was served nicely, despite not understanding my request for citrus with our San Pelligrino. Next, our waitress (do not know her name because she never introduced herself) took our drink order, which took about 25 minutes for three martinis. However, it was only two martinis that were served. I inquired if my martini was coming, to which the waitress retorted “You said you were good,” which were words that certainly did not leave my mouth. When my martini did come out, there was a huge chunk of ice in it and it lack espresso beans which the other patrons received. We saw our waitress in probably 25 minute intervals and at no time did she ask if we needed anything or any more water.
Next, we ordered our food which was actually quite good. My friend, whose birthday it was, ordered a second drink, to which the waitress replied “Are you sure?”. Which was incredibly rude and took us all aback. She then tried to save face by wishing her a happy birthday and bringing her the drink. Next, I asked for my bill as I needed to leave dinner early to pick my parents up from the airport. Our waitress disappeared for 25 more minutes. When she finally appeared, she said “Are you leaving yet or are you getting dessert”. I said well I would love to leave but have not gotten my bill yet. I’m not sure what she had against me in particular as all the other patrons were treated very nicely and politely.
Needless to say, I will not be returning. This is Newburgh, Indiana, you do not have a Star nor any reason to be snobby or standoffish.
Drop the attitude and serve the patrons...
Read moreTonight we tried the recently opened Marida Restaurant. The location used to be The Landing, which was one of the first restaurants we ate at when we moved to Evansville last year. When we arrived a few minutes before our reservation, no one was at the hostess area. We waited a few minutes and a few servers or other staff walked past but didn’t acknowledge us. Finally a server did come by and said the hostess would be back soon. That was the only service hiccup we had - and it was very minor. The decor is comfortable and understated. We started with the falafel appetizer. It’s a lot lighter (less dense) than any falafel I’ve ever had and was very tasty. The Caesar salad was fairly basic. We were a little surprised that they don’t make their own croutons and dressing, but the salad was still tasty. For entrees we had the Mandi pasta (dumplings filled with spicy ground lamb, boiled like pasta and then served with garlicky yogurt, spicy butter, and tomato sauce) and the doner (gyro) platter. The portions are huge! The pasta came with the garlic yogurt on the side. I tried it first without the yogurt and it was quite good. But the addition of the yogurt really made it great. The doner was good, but extremely salty. He ended up putting some of the yogurt sauce from the pasta on it and that really helped cut through the salt. Our server was fantastic - friendly and attentive and had a fun sense of humor. All of the food came out very quickly. Overall it was very good, and we’ll definitely go back to try more...
