Taqueria El Naranjo — Restaurant in Newman

I’m new to the area and I decided to try this place since my go too was closed on Mondays. When we walked in I kinda knew I should have gone else where. Never have I ever been to a Mexican Restaurant and smell no food. Menu was super limited (another red flag) they didn’t even do carne Asada fries (fries, steak, toppings). When I ordered a quesobirrira combo plate, it was suggested to me that I should try the “tender” pork in Verde sauce because it was sooo good and tender……LIES!!!! I literally could not put my fork in any piece of meat. Either they really over cooked that pork or they are serving the community really old pork that they’ve reheated too many times. Unfortunately I won’t be back ! No matter how hungry I am !

I'm beginning to love my time in newman. A kind of wild west near the bustle of the Bay. Although disappointed that the only decent eat I'm food in town are Mexican, I am pleased that there are some actual decent spots. This is one of them! They are famous for their quesabirrias and in particular the owner makes the most authentic and killer Birria de Chivo. Authentic tic Mexican Goat Birria. Wintertime awesomeness for my family we would go on weekends to eat hot soup and their homemade tortillas and cucumber chia drinks. This is one of my favorite gems. If you want a hot soup this is the spot. Regular food is ok.... but the quesabirries con consomme and their birria soup even the beef birria.... amazing!! Worth it especially...

When i pulled up to this place, I noticed it was empty at lunch time. Not one person eating there. That gave me a bad feeling about the place but i decided to try it anyway.

Well boy was I sorry. While the customer service was ok, the food was poor. Meat in the taco was so bland, very little flavor. The guy taking my order asked if i wanted everything on my tacos including salsa, I said yes. when i got the tacos all they had was meat cilantro and onions. I wouldve taken it back but i had already left and gotten down the street.
