It was very difficult to rate this place because the food is very good and the service was very good but the prices were so ridiculously high. My 7-year-old granddaughter ordered off the kids menu a very tiny piece of steak with mashed potatoes and green beans and it was a $25 kids meal. There was nothing on that plate anywhere near that cost. The piece of meat probably cost a dollar and fifty cents the mashed potatoes probably another dollar and they were about 20 itty bitty tiny french green beans so those probably another dollar so you're talking about $3.50 worth of ingredients on the plate and it was a $25 charge. Ordered a pasta dish with sausage some diced bell pepper and it was very tasty. It was normal to smaller portion than most restaurants. And again it was extremely overpriced. It's unfortunate because the restaurant is really pretty it's in a beautiful location but for a side salad just iceberg lettuce chopped up you're looking at almost $20 a whole head of iceberg lettuce is $1.40. anyway it was just sad because that's the reason the restaurants empty. Oh and possibly could be empty because they put a very gross sauce on the kids meal steak just to warn people if you get that for your child please tell them don't put the sauce on it it's nasty. My server's name is Cheyenne and she was absolutely wonderful. I feel really bad for her because the place was empty on a Friday night and had they had a realistically priced menu I guarantee it would have been full she would have made a fortune in tips because she's a great waitress. The young man that answered the phone when I called to ask questions was also very friendly and patient with me. It's truly a shame hopefully management will read this comment and hopefully other people are also bringing this up because yeah you do expect to pay a little more in a fancy restaurant but when it gets to a certain point it's just absurd and they're not serving anything that costs that much the ingredients or on the cheap side for most of the dishes and they're charging outrageous prices. I've gone to steakhouses where they're serving prime rib lobster things like that and to get a beautiful filet mignon with lobster you'll pay $40 and this restaurant just for one tiny piece of meat or you're going to pay 50 or more anyway it's just a shame I was going to only give a three because the prices are so ridiculous but I didn't want to take away from my server and the chef. I will say this my granddaughter's steak was the most tender tasty little tiny piece of meat. The chef did a wonderful job on a vegetables they were crispy and had great flavor I mean the meals were very good I just wish they would modify their menu they would be full every weekend I guarantee you they just need to be a little more realistic with...
Read moreRestaurant week in Newport Beach is a special event we have enjoyed for many years and we had been looking forward to having some great dinners and supporting our local restaurants after the long Pandemic. We had confirmed reservations for 7:30pm for a table of 4 persons and arrived precisely on schedule for our reservation and were seated immediately without delay. Within a few minutes our waitress arrived. We explained that we have a wine cellar and brought a special bottle from our cellar to enjoy & offered to pay the corkage fee. I asked if they had a decanter. She told us they had decanters and a few minutes later she returned to announce they were all being cleaned and none were available for us so they would "waive" the corkage fee. She said she was going to attend to one other table and be back to answer any quiestions we had about the special selections for the evening. She did not return. After 45 minutes we flagged her down and she came over and asked abruptly, "So what do you want to order?." We quickly made our selections. 30 minutes later 2 salads and one bowl of luke-warm soup arrived. A cold breeze kept blowing out the outside propane heaters and it was uncomfortably cold. At 9:15 we had been seated for one hour and forty-five minutes and our food had not arrived, and more importantly, we had not received a visit to our table by the waitress or the restaurant owners to address the issue of no food in almost two hours. We had to wave down our waitress to find out what was the problem. During this time, it was obvious that other guests at adjacent tables had completely eaten their meals and left. We did notice however that several other people who had waited for more than an hour simply left before receiving any food. At 9:30, after having spent 2 hours and still getting nothing more than the initial salad an hour earlier, we confronted our waitress who said, "The kitchen is just really busy." We had not ordered anything unusual, merely the items off the Restaurant Week fixed menu. In disgust, we departed at 9:30 having never received our food. We are all well-behaved, appropriately attired, retired local people in our mid-60's and we are not accustomed to such service. We have enjoyed dining in Newport Beach at the wonderful water-front restaurants for more than 30 years. We have enjoyed visiting several local Newport Beach restaurants for this year's Restaurant Week promotion. In that entire time we have never experienced the disappointment and poor service we had at the Bayside Restaurant. You would be well advised to find alternative dinner accommodations so you too are not disappointed. Life is simply too short to tolerate such conduct with so many wonderful and delightful restaurants in the...
Read moreHad a nice Valentine's Day Dinner at Bayside on the 14th. Gwendolyn was our server and very nice and professional. We had the prefix menu at $135 a person. My wife started with the Cesar salad and I had the crab cake. We both had tequilla drinks. For our main entree my wife had the Sea Bass and I had the Salmon. Both dishes were very good. The music was amazing with the trio playing some awesome tunes. For desert we had a coffee and both the flour less chocolate cake and the strawberry shortcake. A nice meal, Valet parking and we felt the love in the air. Recommended
Previous review What an amazingly good dining experience this evening at Bayside in Newport Beach. The Valet attendant, Hector was welcoming and professional. Upon entering the restaurant, which by the way is nicely appointed and quite elegant, we checked in with the lovely hostess a bit early for our 5:30 reservation. We were seated at a lovely table in the outdoor patio area with a terrific view of the bay. Or server extraordinare, Mavi, who has been with Bayside for 22 years, introduced himself and took our drink order as we chatted a bit. Upon returning with a wonderful Jalepeno Margarita and my wife's frozen margarita, Mavi suggested the array of soups, which we both selected the eggplant puree soup. The soup was delicious and paired with some tasty hot rolls delivered to the table by Felix for round one and then Ruben for round two. The staff are all professional , very pleasant and friendly. Juan, Arnold and Pollo were all fantastic as well. My wife also had a nice Cesar salad and I had another Jalepeno margarita. We then ordered our main entree and visited with each other and staff during our dining experience. It was so nice. We both selected the mushroom crusted halibut and substituted the asparagus for sautéed spinach over a beautifully prepared pureed potato. The meals were well prepared, presented and very tasty. We finished our evening with the chocolate cake with salted Carmel ice cream and an Americano coffee. We took a slice of New York cheesecake home. The service Mavi and his team of amazing staff did a fantastic job making our evening special and our compliments to the chefs as well. A terrific evening out and the live music indoors with the piano, saxophone and drums was a nice addition to our...
