Newport Fusion Sushi — Restaurant in Newport Beach

I can’t rate service or atmosphere as I did delivery but let me tell you, the food is AMAZING (and I worked at a sushi restaurant in college so I’m a bit of a snob when it comes to sushi). I ordered just a simple yellowtail cut roll and a tuna cut roll and both had HUGE chunks (not the minced stuff that is used for lesser quality fish and mixed with mayo or scallions) but huge chunks of very fresh fish. Each piece of the sushi was quite large because of that! 😍 They also put ponzu to-go in the order because I asked. That was kind of them. Side note, the wasabi is fresh as well, same with the ginger (minor things but good indicator of a sushi restaurant’s level). I have to say the employees here are so rude. I was in the area and has to use the restroom so I walked in to to do so. No one greeted me and so I saw a bathroom sign went in and used it. There was no lock on the door or sign asking that only paying customers use the restroom. I used the bathroom with no incident made no mess and walked out and they literally chased me outside to scold me for using the bathroom without being a ‘paying customer’ It was bizarre and embarrassing and now I would never give them my business. I understand having rules in place to stop people from coming in to businesses and destroying bathrooms but this was ridiculous. If they had asked me to buy something to use the bathroom I wouldve bought a soda or something but no they just yell at people...

The food was delicious but the service was awful. We arrived about 30 minutes before closing. The servers were drinking beers at the bar with a loud, rude, foul-mouthed woman. Aside from forgetting to bring us our sake (we did get it after our food was delivered and with a little prompting) they seemed rushed to cheers-beers with the trashy mouthed woman at the bar who repeatedly and loudly grumbled about us being in the restaurant. Something along the lines of "why the F%$k are they even here?" She appeared to be drunk and was disruptive and the wait-staff seemed eager to join her, not ask her be courteous to their other patrons. Don't waist your $$$ for a sub-par environment and service. Get take-out or better yet, patronize another...
