A&W Restaurant — Restaurant in Newport

We came here on our way home from Dollywood. We thought, ordering drive thru would be quicker since we still have 45 mins to drive home. Well, it wasn't quicker.

We got there around 9:35 PM ish. My husband got the Papa Burger meal. Our daughter wanted chicken tenders but they ran out of breading for the tenders so she ordered corndog nuggets kids meal. I ordered number 5 on long john silver side. 2 piece of fish meal.

We were told to pull up to one of the parking spot after we paid. Waited around 5 mins and a young man walked by our car to give us the food. Everything was right except instead of fish meal, they rang up chicken. So he went back inside with everything.

We waited 20 mins until a young lady came to our window and give us the food. She was very nice and gave us an extra piece of fish for our wait. My husband food was warm. My daughter's food was barely warm with limp fries. My fish with super hot but with cold, limp fries. Who does that? I mean, we waited 20 mins for the food. I was too annoyed to eat the food. We should've just brought everything back and get our money refunded.

It added 30 mins to our travel time. I loved coming to A&W growing up. But I'll drive to a different location of A&W before thinking about coming to this...

Sodas were flat or just not good. Asked them to check the diet root beer so they brought another one that was fizzier...but still wasnt right. The fish was soaked in grease and less than what I remember having in the past. The fries were tough. My 5 year old son didn't even like them.

The floors in the entire restaurant we're like a skating rink. The cashier was also less than helpful. When my wife asked if she could have a milkshake instead of a root beer float she said sure...didn't mention it was a $1.59 upcharge. The manager was nice enough to credit us back for that.

Not sure why an A&W restaurant can't serve root beer that tastes better than or at least the same as what you get in a bottle. When I asked the cashier that brought the replacement diet root beer if she had tried it she said she doesn't try anything from here...that says a lot. One more thing...they have a big barrel looking thing with two tap handles next to the soda fountain with a sign on it that says you can get regular root beer from the fountain and diet you have to get from the...

Would not recommend. First-not their fault- the credit card machine was down. Food is very expensive for what you get. We ordered a double cheeseburger with fries and a rootbeer float. The burger patties were so thin they had holes in them, so we thought oh maybe it's a steak burger. Nope incorrect. We received 10 fries with our burger. Yes. We counted because we were astounded by it. We also ordered chicken tenders and fries. We were told they had to be fried fresh but they were cold when we got them. Amazingly with the tenders we received, there was almost a full basket of fries. We also ordered long John silver 3 piece chicken meal with fries and extra hushpuppies. We watched the person put a hushpuppy that had been sitting on the counter onto the plate and then put other hushpuppies on top. She put coleslaw, which was not ordered, on the plate. They very grudgingly fixed the order. There were 3 pieces of chicken one hot, 2 cold and of the 2 cold ones, one was burnt. The cashier was super friendly. The floor was super slick.
