We came into the restaurant at approximately 9:00 pm on 6/11/2024, nobody was at podium to check us in, several workers were congregating by the bar, at least three of them looked directly at us but nobody bothered to approach us or check us in. stood at the podium for about 5 minutes and a gal finally approached us. She asked if we wanted a high table, I said no, so she sat us at a regular table and gave us menus. And there we sat for nearly twenty minutes. NOBODY came by to take our order or for any other reason. I finally waved down the the same gal that sat us and asked if we could get someone to take our order and also asked if they could turn down the music that was blaring out of the speaker directly over us, which was making the people two tables away from us have to speak excessively loud to hear each other over the loud music (also the music was not appropriate for a dining atmosphere, it was some kind of grunge hard music). Anyhow she did go turn the music down, it stayed down for a minute and then somebody turned it back up. A server / waiter came by our table about three minutes later, he set down silverware and walked away without saying a word. By this time we had been in the restaurant for nearly 30 minutes. We decided enough was enough and left. I did walk over to the bar area and asked who the manager was. A gal with long hair and a bad complexion looked up from her phone that she was texting and / or playing on and said she was. I then advised her as politely as I could muster that she may want to stop playing on her phone and actually run her restaurant. She asked where we were seated, and I said it really didn't matter because we were leaving. I told her briefly about what we had encountered and then walked out of the restaurant. Whoever owns this restaurant needs to do a better job of overseeing their business. This was horrible. Can't rate food, never got a chance to order / eat. But in the past the food has usually been decent. Service has almost always been an issue but this was by far the worst experience we have had at...
Read moreWe're staying at the Holiday Inn Express to visit with a family member in Newton who is ill. I came here this evening with my husband, daughter, and two teenage grandchildren to eat dinner after a long trip up from Dallas. I made a reservation for the five of us thinking that it being a Friday evening that might be best. We arrived at the restaurant early and they were able to accommodate us in just a few minutes. The hostess asked if we were okay sitting at a high top table in the bar area, and we were. I followed her to our table, and promptly fell on my face in front of my family and the entire restaurant. Apparently, there are two small steps from the entrance to the bar area that I did not see. They are black and blend into the floor seamlessly. The hostess never told us to "watch our step" and there is no signage stating the same. I took my misstep in stride and was able to pull myself up after twisting my ankle. We were seated, and given our menus after an apology from the hostess. No less than five minutes after we were seated another man, several years older than me, took the exact same fall. He was helped up by several people, his glasses broken, removed himself to the restroom. We in the meantime had placed our order. The manager came over to apologize and get my information for her mandatory " incident report ". At that time, the older man exited the restroom and was leaving the restaurant. I told her we ordered food so she should definitely go get his information and come back. We ate our meal, I received our $116 bill and paid. The manager never returned to our table to finish her "report" and nothing was offered to be taken off of our bill. I probably won't ever return to this location in Newton due to the inadequate food and lackadaisical manager. However, our server, Nicole, was amazing! She was very attentive and she interacted with my autistic grandson...
Read moreBartender was horrible. After checking their hours via phone, (says it closed at midnight on saturdays) my friend and I head over there about 10:45 just to have a $5 drink and leave. We step in at 10:45 and no one is there to seat us and after 10 minutes of just standing by the door we decide to sit at the bar (since we were only getting one drink anyways). We sit at the bar and I see the bartender already is having an awful night and is being extremely distasteful to another customer. I decide then that we weren’t to rush her because it seemed she was not in a great mood but we still had an hour no worries. Right after filling TWO BEERS she finally gives us a menu and I politely tell her we won’t be ordering food, just two of their holiday valentine’s day drinks. She then snatched the menus (condiments were spilt) and says “I just called last call, we close at 11, do you think I would really give you guys alcohol? We’re done selling it” MIND YOU, right after my friend and I saw two beers explode in her face and not hearing last call, ever. I understand if they’re done selling alcohol there is nothing that can be done, but the way it was said could have been way better. We leave and I tell the hostess she will be having problems at the bar because the bartender is horrible. I am from this area and have gone probably over 100 times but after this I will never be back. Extremely disappointed, coming from someone who has worked in the service industry. Shame on applebee’s and...
