A selfie today with my friend Miguel, owner of the La Cabana Mexican Restaurant in Newton. Pam and I have eaten at La Cabana since they first opened about 25 years ago. The Chili Colorado has always been my favorite, however, due to having gout and needing to watch my diet beef is no longer an option for me. I don't know why in the past I never thought of having chicken instead of beef with my colorado but that's changed forever now. If you like a little, maybe a bit more than than a little spicy, this dish is made for you. Nice spice heat without going overboard, along with a wonderful flavor, the chicken is incredibly tender and delicious, the mexican rice is great by itself or as I prefer, mixing some in with the chicken and the sauce. La Cabanas refried beans are epic, smooth and creamy, simply mouthwatering, just didn't want my meal to end. As you can clearly see from the last photo La Cabana wins my coveted cleaned plate award, actually licked plate award. This is an excellent Mexican Restaurant, serving mouthwatering delicious food along with great service, very much worth the drive, no matter where you live. I give them my highest recommendation and feel fortunate they are right...
Read moreI was so excited to try this place only to be majorly let down. The service was AWFUL! We waited 10 to 15 mins for the waitress to come to our table for our drink order and when she finally came by, we were at that point ready to place our food order. She returned ONCE more the entire hour and some minutes we were there to bring our drinks and chips/salsa. That's right, we waited over 30 minutes for chips and salsa. When we finally got our food, it was only the fajita plate and nohing else. We had to ask another waitress if anything else came with the meal and then she was the one who delivered the rest of our meal. As for the food... well the food was so bland that we had to season our food with the salt and pepper at the table. While I can't leave zero stars, I can warn others and tell them to save their money and...
Read moreAfter my third visit, I'm really at the point where their service is becoming a huge drawback to what is otherwise good Mexican dining. The food gets pretty high marks in my opinion, and I've been to countless Mexican restaurants around the Midwest. The service is where this place really doesn't measure up. I know many places are experiencing staffing issues, but during all three visits, the irritatingly poor service here ruined it for me. It's too bad the management is unable to find a solution. Good service is important to me. For whatever reason, this particular establishment just cannot...
