Update for owner - We did tell our waitress we were surprised at the charge for the hashbrowns due to the portion & showed her pictures. She responded that she wasn’t the owner so she didn’t make the portions and she would take $2 off of the bill. She told us she preferred us to pay cash because earlier in the day there was a pub crawl and they had no cash left. Only a few tables when we were in, but I’m sure they were busier earlier in the day. Just sharing our dining experience. Wish you the best. Our first experience the pizzas weren’t great but they had just opened so we figured we’d try it again. Service was very slow. We had to ask for waters after sitting for a while. We were told they were out of chicken and chicken cutlets. We were surprised to be charged $4 for each “side of hash browns” (not $3 as it says on the menu) which was a comically small amount of hashbrowns, maybe 2 forkfuls on my plate. We assumed they just forgot them until we saw the bill. I have a picture of mine, my friend actually had less than pictured maybe one forkful. Then we were told they would like us to pay cash because they didn’t have any cash in the register from a pub crawl. My eggs came out cold, but tasted good. Overall, weird experience we wont be back.

I wasn’t charged for my meal, I took one bite and it turned my stomach, lost appetite. I examined the meat and I was frustrated, the lamb burger I ordered wasn’t just dried out and burnt it tasted rotten. I have a food safety certificate (18 yrs) for the state of New York and I was appalled by what I bit into. Just one appetizer, 2 drinks - diet coke, smallest sweet tea I’ve ever seen in my life as a beverage in any restaurant (once tried I asked for sugar it was unsweetened tea) and my wife Jens shrimp scampi that was small portion but she said it was delicious though. The warm baked bread was good but the butter and oil was bland, the coconut shrimp appetizer was just “shrimp tempura” on a slice of pineapple and shaved coconut. - It appears and taste exactly like Costco Shrimp Tempura but on sticks (that’s fine but that’s not coconut shrimp). It was a total of $70 total, including tip for 2 drinks, appetizer and shrimp scampi. Staff was kind but the food service was terrible, we unfortunately won’t be going back.

We just came in for breakfast. There were four other tables seated, all at various stages of their meal. We waited for more than 50 minutes for our food. The waiter did give us bread while we waited, and said there was a very large table that came in before us which was why it was taking so long (it was a 5 top). When it came, both of the eggs Benedict were completely raw. When you look at the picture, you will see the egg white is not completely translucent. My husband didn’t realize how undercooked his was because the hollandaise sauce completely covered the eggs. The yolk was not textured at all, and as raw as it is when you crack an egg into the pan. This is not cooked. When we told the waiter, he apologized but that was it. $75, the only edible meal was my son’s grilled cheese. Unfortunately we will not be coming back.

Decided to try this restaurant. Ordered pizza online. Husband went to pick it up, and turns out that they didn’t have enough staff to make the pizza (on a Friday night no less)! Not a good look.

UPDATE: The owner responded by saying the ovens weren’t working because they inherited them from the previous restaurant owner. Understandable, but why did you lie to my husband and say you don’t have enough staff? Which is it - You don’t have enough staff or the ovens aren’t working? Don’t lie to your customers; you should’ve told my husband that or else I wouldn’t be leaving this review. I don’t like being lied to, and you should’ve offered us a gift certificate or given us some free items to make it more attractive for us to order again, but no such thing was done. That’s what I would do if I were a restaurant owner! A $20 gift certificate would have made us happy and we would’ve tried you again, but I guess you need that money to buy new ovens.

UPDATE #2:

Firstly, stop trying to make it look like you’re some religious person that I am attacking because I am not. You did lie as you did not tell us your ovens were broken, and this is not about us waiting. If there was a wait we would’ve gladly waited. My husband was not upset. He was just annoyed that it took 45 minutes for you to tell us that our order was canceled. We ordered online and were at home for 45 minutes because we were told that’s how long the pizza would take. We were perfectly fine with that. We were told to order was canceled when my husband arrived at your restaurant. You lied about the oven not working and you said you did not have enough employees to make the pizza. You are gaslighting me and the entire situation by making it out like I am some impatient customer when it had nothing to do with that. I have waited at restaurants many times and will continue to. It also had nothing to do with other people waiting and stop comparing me to others. This wasn’t about waiting. We were never told you can wait for the pizza to be made we were told the order was canceled because you do not have enough employees. You don’t want to admit that you didn’t have enough employees to make pizza when in fact the oven wasn’t working. I am very perplexed as to why you did not tell the truth and why now you still are not telling the truth. You never once said that if my husband waits, he could get the pizza. He would’ve gladly waited because we really wanted to try your restaurant and read many good reviews. I am not trying to shame you. I am just calling you out on your lies. Lastly, we did not behave badly. All we wanted to do was try your restaurant so don’t give me nonsense about not rewarding us for bad behavior; we simply wanted to try your pizza. YOU are behaving badly by making it out that we are impatient, rude customers. If you admit you lied, I will delete this review. Your response was snippy, condescending and rude. You should’ve just apologized and left it at that. There are many restaurants in Newtown and plenty in Sandy Hook. I ended up getting a delicious pizza from somewhere that is directly across from the gas station right off exit 10. That is the place I usually patronize, but decided to give you try. that was a bad decision. I would’ve left this alone and not left an update again if you did not respond so rudely and tried to gaslight me. Good luck with your restaurant. They’re a dime a dozen in Newtown. I’ve lived here for 26 years and seen many of them go down. It’s a tough business,...

Wonderful Experience at Hilltop Kitchen! A few months ago, we had my 60th birthday celebration at Hilltop Kitchen and it was nothing short of Fantastic! We reserved the small room adjacent to the front door and had about 25 friends and relatives. Sattie, Ian and Alisha were wonderful and really made my night special. Sattie was extremely easy and flexible to work with regarding preparations as it was a bit of a last minute party. She was clear and upfront on costs and had many good suggestions on the best ways to do things without breaking our budget, which was appreciated. The food was truly amazing – we had incredible appetizers which included delicious sliders and a large charcuterie board for about 1.5 hours. Entrée’s were out of this world and included Salmon, Chicken and a Vodka penne pasta. The salmon and chicken were delicious, tender with a hint of a homemade recipe – really amazing! Since we had some folks drinking but not all, they worked with us on carafe’s of red and white wine and my wife brought the birthday cake. Just an aside, but my son’s college basketball team had a playoff game which we had on their big screen TV and afterwards, were able to play our own tunes on their stereo for dancing. All this to say, Hilltop Kitchen is amazing and the team there is wonderful and very accommodating!! Please try them and you won’t be disappointed. FYI, we’ve been back several times to enjoy their amazing brunch and have lunch and dinner there often. Just had the most incredible BLT the other day for lunch and my friend had the Hot Tony pizza – excellent pizza as well! LOVE...
