UPDATED: Sugo has become one of our favorite go-to spots, and after 30+ visits, we’re still blown away. This review is long overdue and you’ll see evidence of that in some of the pictures — some from fall, others from now, fully decked out for Christmas! Their happy hour, from 3-6 PM daily, is truly unmatched. Not only are the prices incredible, but they offer high-end wines like Caymus, Unshackled (The Prisoner) and Stags Leap at half off on bottles and EVEN by the glass —something you don’t see anywhere else! The happy hour menu is a perfect way to try a bit of everything they offer, with dishes that highlight their amazing quality and flavors. Christine spends time meticulously putting together seasonal decorations make the space feel magical, and right now, it’s especially festive as you can see. Rick and Christine at the bar are the heart of the place—they’ve been friends for over 20 years and make everyone feel right at home. And just to be clear, Jill and I don’t own the restaurant LOL. We are simply excited when people put their heart in something and it works and we want to keep it working! So maybe this review is a selfish way of making sure this extra extraordinary place not only succeeds, but thrives as we’re lucky to have such a restaurant nearby, and if you haven’t been yet, you need to go! Sorry for so many pictures, but each dish is tastier and better looking than the next! Enjoy!
What can I say, our new favorite All-around! Not only do they have one of the best happy hours anywhere, but the quality and level of the food is off the charts. I describe it to friends as high-end Italian cuisine. But funny enough, one of our Favorite gotos is the tuna salad, which is the most beautiful piece of seared tuna with sesame seeds around it perfectly done with avocado noodles, salad and a light but super tasty dressing. The pastas are amazing - We’ve tried all the sauces, vodka sauce is beyond tasty and quite honestly everything we have tried has been superb. They make amazing brick, oven, pizzas, and if you go in for happy hour, you can try all kinds of tasty appetizers without breaking the bank! We started coming there for happy hour because it was such a good value, including half off bottles on Monday, and half of glasses of wine every happy hour, but then started experimenting with the rest of the menu, and I have to tell you we loved FIGS, which was at this location, which closed during the pandemic and now we love Sugo! Must be something about this location it just attracts top restauranteurs. Also, they have Perroni on tap, which is my all-time favorite beer, and Christina the bartender on Monday (And I believe manager on other nights) is amazing. Remembers what we like. Makes great recommendation and we look forward to seeing her! We are here Once or even twice a week - and I’ve watched over the past month as it’s gotten busier and busier as the words gotten out. I hesitate writing good recommendations as we love sitting at the bar and I don’t wanna see that packed - To the point where we can’t get a seat, however the staff and the owner Rick Are so nice, I want to see this place not only succeed but thrive! If you’ve never been,...
Read moreI am so saddened to write this review. As a former customer of Figs restaurant which was in this space before, I was so excited to try this gastro pub. We called ahead to place a take out order on a Sunday and were told that this restaurant had rave reviews. It was a huge disappointment. I ordered salmon with ginger sauce (no ginger sauce though) and asked for it well done. It came out rare. I also asked for mashed potato as a side, but the mashed potatoes tasted previously frozen. So I got a rare cut of salmon dripping in some soupy looking white alfredo sauce with poor quality mashed potatoes. My spouse ordered chicken parm it came with 13 zitis and some ragu tomato sauce that tasted like it came from a can. The chicken tasted thawed out. Everything was subpar at best. We eat at high quality restaurants in Darien, New Canaan, Westport… all across Fairfield County and Litchfield County. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. I am sad to say we are so disappointed with the quality. I would drive to a different location if you want good chicken or fish meals. Also, what salmon comes with no side? Do people just eat a plain piece of rare fish dripping in the wrong sauce? We also ordered this at lunch time (noon) but were charged dinner...
Read moreFrom the moment we walked into Sugo Gastrobar in Sandy Hook, we knew we were in for something special—but what truly elevated the night was the warmth, passion, and exceptional service delivered by Rick, the owner, and Dane, our server.
Rick is more than just a restauranteur—he’s a host in the truest sense of the word. His ability to make you feel welcome, understood, and genuinely taken care of is unmatched. His wine knowledge is equally impressive; each recommendation was not only on point but elevated the dishes in a way that showcased his deep understanding of pairing and palate. It’s rare to find someone who can speak to you like an old friend while guiding you through a high-end culinary experience with such finesse.
And then there’s Dane—what a gem. His attentiveness, intuition, and professionalism were second to none. He anticipated our needs before we had to ask, made thoughtful suggestions, and carried a calm confidence that made the entire evening flow seamlessly. He’s the kind of server that turns a great meal into a memorable night.
Sugo isn’t just about food and drink—it’s about the people who make it feel like a home away from home. Rick and Dane are a big part of that magic, and we can’t wait...
