4* because the cold brew was very good and they offer gluten free breakfast which is hard to find. I am a little disappointed because this place is supposed to resemble a European-style coffee shop which it does not. It’s missing colors and light. In Poland for instance, you walk in to a hipster coffee shop, and you see couches, pillows, blankets, display with pastries, quiches, sandwiches with greens, chalkboards, and students sitting around with their laptops. On top of that atmosphere you get affordable pricing and when you order to go, you get eco-friendly containers. Fenders offers wooden silverware (award for that) and paper containers, but lids are still made out of plastic. I ordered two bagels and a cold brew and paid $22 including tip. I didn’t see any young people around because I have a feeling they couldn’t afford it.
At the end of the day, it is just another ok coffee shop. It is sitting right across the street from 411 (and they share the owner from what I read). 411 is the highlight of Norfolk, therefore I believe that Fenders has a future potential. I would recommend the management to focus on specific target costumers and create something better out of this place. When I heard that Fenders was inspired by Europe, I was expecting something a little different. But to be honest I might be biased by the fact that I am European.
I will return to Fenders in a few months because I am excited to see where it’s headed. I am not hooked, but I would recommend it to people, simply because the interior is nice and clean, the coffee is good, and the gluten free...
Read moreThe coffe was decen but almost 18 dollars for 2 small iced drinks that they put in paper cups that got soggy pretty quickly. Not worth the money imo. It was a nice place but the employees there at the time were kind of out of sorts not too sire of what was going on. One customer asked an employee what the name fenders meant and he said "its a secret" another girl said "I think it's some kind of coffee machine". Clearly the guy was just there for a paycheck and had no clue about the business. While we were there we learned that it is owned by the people that own 411. So the prices and experience made more sense after learning that. I get it's new and there's a learning curve so that's why I give it a 3 star. I'm basing that rating on the quality if the drink...
Read moreI arrived at this coffee shop (and more) & the moment I saw it, I knew I would enjoy being here. From the outside, aesthetically, it is wonderful. Then you go in & it’s amazing! The amazing people working are extremely kind & helpful with anything you need assistance with. They have this awesome long bar top & lots of seating; comfortable seating too! The bathrooms are very well kept. There is also outdoor seating, if you so choose to. I ordered a black coffee with butter in it. As well as an everything bagel with cream cheese. I highly recommend stopping by here if passing through or visiting the area.
Okay, I ordered another coffee & a ham/cheddar &...
