Generally I really like this restaurant. Its one of the few Chinese food establishments my picky boys will eat (the others are not in this state). Last night I decided to order a couple of meals at about 9:20, knowing I had to go to bed for work, but generally they are fast as we are around the corner. My order was placed at 9:25, I was told 30 min, which wouod have been fine. 40 min later, no food. As the kids and I finish cleaning the food arrives about 45-50 min from the call. The driver then proceeds to tell ke how busy they are, and apologizes. I sign my receipt, tip added, tell him not to worry about it and to have a good night. At this point its after 10, I have to work at 5 am. I just eant to smash my food and sleep. I fix the boys plates, tell them good night and head for my room. Fully expecting to annialate my food and fall asleep fast. Noy only was my chicken not hot, ot had set long enough to become jelly like. General tsos chicken that usually has a nice coating of good sauce was like it was smothered in chilled jello. By this time it was vlosing time for them. I went to bed. I call today and Im told I should have called last night...after closing? When I already waited longer than ever for the food..need to go to bed for work. Upon trying to explain this to whom ever answered my call I was told I should have called last night..and he can give me a credit of 10percent. I didnt need a refund, however a replacment entree seemed fair to me. I was told no because they would be able to find my order. Im like I can provide proof..It was pyrchased on my card. He vontinued to interrupt me and say he knows, he knows, but that the food sits to be delivered often and is usually fine so all he could do is offer ten percent. As a patron who has spent easily 500$ At this establishments in the last 7-8 months I feel like this is poor customer service. Im a manager for a business that is based on customer service, this is not how you treat a good, loyal guest. Guess we will be finding a new place or not eating Chinese. I refuse to give money to a place that couldnt replace an entree when they obviously took too long to deliver my food, even admitted...
Read moreThis food is terrible. I have been here twice, the first time was bad, but I always like to give a "restaurant" (I use that word very loosely) a second chance.
I agree with John Doe, there is no way people are eating this food and giving it 4 out of 5 stars, it's not authentic, it's watered down, and the cooks use cheap, low grade, borderline inedible ingredients.
I ordered a chicken dish and it was watery and tasteless, and very expensive. The white rice was a funky consistency and the breading on the chicken was burned and weirdly chewy. The sauce was thin and tasteless.
In addition to the chicken I ordered the chow-mein noodles, and instead of using the correct type of noodle, they used angel hair spaghetti, by far the grossest dish I have EVER eaten.
The only reason why this place is getting 4 out of 5 stars is because either the owners or friends of the owners go online and rate it. There is absolutely no way this food is even worth 1 star, but it wouldn't let me rate it 0. Just awful. Do not go here and waste your money.
As I said, I ordered a chicken dish and chow mein noodles, and my meal was over 11 dollars. Crazy.
The best Asian place in town is Lucky Garden, in Bloomington. The only reason China Star is getting any business is because they are the only "Chinese" restaurant on this side of town in...
Read moreI gave this location a try because of the other reviews. I was unfortunately disappointed in the food. The orange chicken did have one thing going for it over other Chinese restaurants in town, the chicken wasn't tough and chewy but the flavor lacked something. The pork fried rice was very bland and mushy, like it had been sitting too long. The same with the fried pot stickers, a bit on the mushy/flavorless side. The crab rangoon was too sweet and was more of a white gel in the center than what you are used to seeing.
I had ordered enough food with hopes for leftovers for later tonight or for lunch the next day but I packed everything back up and ended up pitching the entire order. I wasted over $25.00 on that meal.
The delivery guy was nice, but since a receipt wasn't included I think he was expecting a tip of which I had already included in the original total. I didn't realize the reason for the awkwardness until he had left. :(
If you want to try the restaurant, by all means do, but be a bit conservative in the initial order to see if you like their food versus...
