I've never really liked McDonald's as an entity. It's not the soul-crushing blandness, the plastic food with no nutritional value, or the ubiquity.
It was having my childhood terrorized by Ronald McDonald! That's one creepy mascot!
In all seriousness, something changed ... Me or McDonald's. When I was a child, McDonald's fries were as addictive as if they were coated with powdered crack, McNuggets were Bombtastic chicken goodness, and those McD's "sundaes" were a highlight of summer nights.
Now, the tastes just don't add up. On those rare occasions when I venture in, the food never matches those memories. Did they change, or did my palate develop? I don't think so, as I work hard at being immature!
The one holdout from my childhood was the occasional box of nuggets with the epic Hot Mustard sauce, the best fast food sauce evah! I noticed a couple years ago that it wasn't listed on the box, although they always had it in the restaurants. So I go a year, stop in for the annual fix and ... RIP hot mustard.
McDonald's survives by being what we call in business an "Operator" ... They do what they do, better than anyone. It's not so much success based on the food, it's about a clean restaurant, freshly prepared food, systems processes and employees at the top of their game.
So, although I don't really crave any of their food, they make a decent cup of coffee, and it's fun to sip while watching them run their business at its best. This location is always clean, neat, well-staffed with friendly folks, and overall just radiates competence.
I'll still probably dine places with better food and worse execution and consistency, but they deserve a better-than-average rating for taking pride in what they do.
EVEN IF THEY KILLED...
Read morelisten up people and anyone who reads this! I worked for Mc donalds in 1979-1981 and had a great time working there while i was going through my vocational technical schooling, made loads of friends! however over the years this place has fallen apart. The quality of the food has deteriorated dramaticly, they dont even cook the meat as i used to do,they nuke the pre-cooked hamburger meat, but that is not my complaint today. There used to be a motto called T.L.C. meaning tender loving care, that does not exist no longer.Well here comes my complaint people,Ive been there 3 times in the past month and ordered large fries and each time i came home and opened my bag,the fries were not even filled to the top of the red fry container, its always been a quality thing yrs. ago to almost overflow to the top of the red or white fry container with the fries, of course prices have gone up due to economy as well as everything else in the world but almost $3.00 for a lrg fry and you get this, unacceptable,Ray Croc who founded Mc Donalds many many yrs ago is probably turning over in his grave. I can only hope that the regional offices read my post and take action where it is needed. Sorry, but its been a long time coming and i have to say something before it gets any worse! Just to let you know during my employment there ive opened, closed worked every position, register, the grill, lobby, unloaded all the trucks including putting all stock away,i did maintenance, crew chief,I was 16yrs old when i started working there,i am currently at my job of 32 yrs doing electrical work for the same company, Ive lived here my whole life so its sad to see this...
Read moreIf you’re looking for a place where you and your family can be looked at nasty just for sitting down and having a meal, then this McDonald’s in North Brunswick is the place for you!
From the moment I walked in, it was clear that the employees here have zero interest in providing good customer service. Instead of greeting customers or taking orders, they forcibly want you to use the kiosk, as if speaking to a human is too much to ask. I stood at the counter for at least three minutes before someone even acknowledged me—three whole minutes of being completely ignored while employees walked past me like I was invisible.
And don’t even think about taking your time to eat—the staff makes it very obvious that they want you to finish as quickly as possible so they can clean up, giving you uncomfortable looks the entire time. It’s honestly horrible.
The real shame is that the newly renovated location is actually beautiful. The modern design, big tables, and comfortable seating make it perfect for families with toddlers and kids—but what good is that if you feel unwelcome the second you sit down?
What makes this even more frustrating is that the drive-thru staff is the complete opposite. The workers at the window, especially the two brothers, are incredibly nice and friendly—a total contrast to the rude service inside. If only the same level of customer service existed throughout the whole restaurant!
I will not be coming back. McDonald’s really needs to rethink their hiring and training at this location because this level of service inside is...
