The Staff was super sweet and friendly and made coffee recommendations but my husband texted me that he had grabbed me a coke from the taco truck around the corner so I didn’t get the coffee I was planning to buy. .
My Mother in law bought a box of cookies from Subway right before we came here and I told her that she should have waited because we were going to a local cookie bakery that would have much better cookies then subway.
I went into Blue Deer and ordered two ice cream sandwiches and some cookies.
Well- joke was on me because I swear that they were literally indistinguishable in both looks and taste to the subway cookies my Mother in law had just bought.
It’s all good though because I was buying all of these treats for my kids and I spent less than half of what I was expecting to pay.
I’ve worked in food service and some days you have to do what you have to do. It’s hard to find reliable staff who have the skills to bake a great, consistent product.. Baking cookies and making ice cream from scratch also requires a lot of expensive equipment and certifications, permits, health inspections.
Blue Deer probably orders the same cookie dough that Subway (and a lot of other restaurants do) from Food service distributors.
Y'all- I’ve worked in many restaurants and most of them from Subway, to Starbucks to Olive Garden get their desserts shipped to them pre-made or frozen.
The prices were still good and it was a great value for ice cream sandwiches. I went in expecting to pay $7-$8 per sandwich for my kids and a few bucks per cookie. So yes while you could go to a grocery store and/or a Subway this place has a cleaner and much chiller dining area and super friendly staff. They are a small business and not a corporate giant. So if what you are looking for is an inexpensive treat that your kids will love - this is your spot. Their coffee menu was unique and creative. I’m sad I didn’t get to try any because they looked ...
Read moreMy family and I just last week stopped by their newest location in downtown Boone. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. An employee spoke highly of their signature ice cream cookie sandwich, so we were eager to give it a try. Unfortunately the cookies tasted old and were very hard; however, the ice cream had a good flavor, but still wasn’t worth all the “rave.” We were very disappointed.
Also, if you are visiting this location during the summer months, please be advised there is no air conditioning (at least upstairs) but there are fans. Seating is very limited outside and we ended up sitting on the concrete steps leading up to the additional outside seating that unfortunately was already occupied. As much as I wanted to love the famous ice cream cookie sandwich, unfortunately I doubt my family and I will be returning.
UPDATE: I give this business a 4 star rating because of the prompt and professional response by the owner of this company. My family and I are looking forward to giving the ice cream cookie sandwich another...
Read moreSo they're fairly new I think, and we LOVED the food and their seating area. It was a nice relaxing stop on our way home. It's a place to build your own ice cream sandwiches with homemade cookies and ice cream from a North Carolina creamery! Pick your type of cookie and flavor of ice cream... then sandwich it😎 (you'll need a spoon). The cookies are so fresh and delicious... I mean really really good! The ice cream is great. We ordered: confetti cookie with vanilla bean ice cream chocolate chip cookie with vanilla bean ice cream Both delicious! It's a good visible location on 321 between Blowing and Boone. Plenty of parking for any size vehicle. Very cute seating area! Portion size is generous with a great price point, too. (You can see our ice cream sandwiches in the photo). Can't...
