Spoiler Alert: Breakfast For Dinner Is Coming Soon!
We enjoyed a nice Motherās Day brunch. My sister-in-law had the Meat Lovers Omelette. The home fries were delicious (I tried some), I think the best I have ever had anywhere. The seasoning was sublime.
My wife really enjoyed her special, Summer Quiche. She said the asparagus was cooked perfectly al dente. The Lemon Vinaigrette on her side salad was very tasty. She is not a big lemon fan so her saying that is really saying something good.
I like lemon myself. My Burtās Benedict was maybe the best I have had at Citrus. Usually, their Hollandaise sauce has too much lemon, but today, the sauce hit all the right notes.
I like the idea of using a QR code to add oneself to the wait list. Smart.
One minor critique: The Cinnamon Rolls ought to be heated just a bit before bringing them to the table and not served at room temperature.
Geraldine was a fantastic server! She was very engaged with our table and never once gave the impression that she had any other place to be. That is a rare quality in servers at Citrus. That is why this review rates service four stars overall ā no reflection on Geraldine, a solid 5.
Iām pleased to see weāll soon be able to have Breakfast for Dinner!
Nota Bene: The owner of Citrus also owned the next-door Pomodoros, an Italian restaurant. It closed its doors a couple of years ago due to a chronic staffing shortage, especially in the kitchen. Our village, Denver, NC, has enough fast food but too few quality dining experiences. The restaurant business is tough and I was saddened to see Pomodoros close its doors. COVID really did a number on small businesses and this mindset of people not wanting to work is maddening.
Citrus is a highlight in the Denver...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI shouldāve know it was going to be a bad experience when I asked for a regular highchair and not that hammock thing for a car seat and was met with an attitude. Then I received my drink which had stuff floating around in the cup. Got a new drink and she took our order and I ordered chicken and waffles. My husband got a chicken biscuit with potatoes. My order came and the chicken was raw. She takes the plate I hear her say to them to redrop the chicken. Which is gross. Then I started talking to my husband about the waffle better be remade as well. Well the guy that was standing near came over and spoke to us and asked if we needed anything. I said something about my waffle being remade he said yes it would be remade. They bring me the ānewā food. It was on the same plate. The waffle had so much grease on it still indented from the previous chicken, chicken was brown from the grease, and still raw. My waitress asked if I wanted remade. I said yes. Then I heard her speaking with another woman that was saying it was remade. I went over there and told her itās fine I didnāt want it no longer. The Second Lady comes over there swearing it was remade. I said itās okay I didnāt want it no more. Showed her where it was still raw and she said itās pink because of it being a thigh. I said I still donāt want it. I know how thighs are suppose to be. I got my baby back in his car seat and walked out. Only apologize was from our waitress she said sorry about that guys. On the car ride to somewhere else to get me food, my husband told me his chicken was overdone and nasty. So if you want overcooked/undercooked chicken please go...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOk, if you were looking for a reason to come dine at Citrus. Well buckle up buttercup because here is the review youāve been waiting for. I have been to citrus for breakfast multiple times and each time is better than the last. If you are looking for fancy, pompous, or an overpriced breakfast then get to stepping cause you wonāt find that here. The food is delicious, fresh, and exactly what you want from a southern breakfast place. The only thing Iām not a huge fan of are the grits, but as you know grits are up to interpretation. One manās trash is another manās treasure. I do love their slushees, like just order it. Please donāt rob yourself of this delightful drink, my personal favorite is the watermelon but theyāre all great. And hey, if youāre wanting to get loosey goosey at 9am get you some alcohol in there. Nobody worth being around will judge you. The omelettes are flavorful, the pancakes are the perfect level of fluffy and sweet but the star of the show (in my opinion) is anything served with their biscuits. Making biscuits is an art, and the chefs here are the Bob Ross of biscuit makers, blessing the world with happy fluffy biscuits. Another stand out here is the service. I donāt know what stick some of the negative reviewers had up their rear end but every server here is amazing, I do have my favorite and she knows who she is, but honestly everyone here is kind, attentive, and bring the right amount of sass to make your dining experience enjoyable. So if you made it this far, let me leave you with one word of advice. Go to Citrus for your next breakfast, you...
