It's a shame I feel I need to warn people not to eat at a place I used to love to visit. And I do mean visit. Granny's Kitchen used to be a place that felt that way, but no longer.
When me and my wife walked in. We had to listen to the waiting staff, front end staff. and what looked like the cooking staff hanging out talking about how bad their job was.
And how they made no money and should work at another place. That so and so worked at and it was better ( grumble grumble complain etc.) it went on and on and I tried my best to ignore it.
After a few minutes I ordered at the counter because I was in a bit of a hurry. Despite my hurry I usually enjoy eating at Granny's and wanted them to give them my business instead of a convenience store. So I dealt with the sorry service thinking they will be quitting soon enough and I won't have to worry about it anyway.
I ordered 2 pieces of pie and 2 cups of coffee to fuel up and get back on the road. I waited while my chubby blonde waitress wattled around trying to look busy and do nothing at the same time (You know act like they are working; also she was one of the people complaining about money. )
I finally just got up and went to pay my check at the counter I would have understood if it was crowded (But 3 cars in the lot and 6 people was really no excuse for being slow).
I was stunned when I was told that my home made/squished/not appealing looking pie (that was said to be home made, but looked suspiciously like store bought) was going to cost me $16.00 !!!
The coffee was out of a regular coffee maker and the pie was something from a grocery store bakery. I literally paid for both a whole pie and a large container of coffee.
Felt completely ripped off. Most places owned by non cooperate mom and pop organizations are $20.00 for 2 people to eat a burger drink and fries. I felt ripped off and angry for the owner.
Now keep in mind I don't mind paying for good food. As a matter of fact I paid 120.00 dollars for a nice lunch in Asheville. But sub par food, a sorry staff and being over priced to the extreme.
I know I will never eat there again and all because of a few employees with a cancerous attitude who have absolutely no regard for the business they work for. Plus being charged enough to be shocked and then get a smart remark form a chubby brunette with a bad attitude as well.
It made me sick to my stomach as I walked out knowing that other people would have a similar experience to mine.
Do yourself a favor don't waste your time just stop at the convenience store or the fast food places next door.
You will just get ripped off and aggravated eating at Granny's Kitchen.

Read moreMy boyfriend used to eat here often when he worked in this area. It had been a while since he had come but he said it was really good so my daughter, her fiancé, he and I decided to try it. Big mistake! As you enter, there is a "Please seat yourself " sign, so we did. It took 20 minutes before someone came to get our drink order and give us menus. Another 20 minutes passed before we saw our waitress who appeared to have been crying. She was not happy and it was obvious! Another waitress came with her and gave us our water, but sodas/coffee were slow in arriving. We had been seated almost an hour before our drinks arrived. None of our orders were complicated with extra or special requests... we just ordered as it was written on the menu. It took another hour before our food arrived! My friend was surprised and apologized for his high recommendation. He said it had never been that way when he came before. Personally, my meal was good, but the others rated their meals as "edible" not great or even good, simply OK. Recap: we won't be returning. It was a big disappointment for all of us! With 3 wait staff working together, no one should have had a service complaint. There was no confusion about our orders or who was to get what for our table. They seemed to know what to do ... It just took them forever to get it done. No excuses were given for the poor service and quality of the food. Was there maybe only 1 cook on duty? Did someone walk off the job at peak of the dinner rush putting everyone behind schedule trying to catch up? Or something else? We didn't have any idea what was going on but we did not enjoy our evening out. Sometimes an explanation goes a long way to relieve your mind when you have to wait 20 mins to be welcomed, another 20 to order your food, and over an hour before it is ready to be served! Not what we look for when we go out for a relaxing meal after a tough work week! It will take a lot of positive comments from others before we give them...
Read moreMade the mistake of sitting at the bar again after a good experience the first visit. An employee was throwing clean silverware into a sorting tub on the bar in front of us less than a foot away, so loud it hurt my ears. She seemed angry with how hard she was slamming the silverware. She coughed all over the silverware, didn't bother to cover her mouth or even turn away. Then a couple employees gathered around to complain about low tips right in front of us (I totally get it but never ever is it okay to do that in front of customers) and then another angry employee began slamming silverware in place of her coworker who had finally left to do something else, again slamming so hard it was piercing. Probably would have had a better experience at a booth but after sitting at the bar the first time and it being so great, this experience was like eating at a completely different place. How are you so rude that you do any of that right in front of a customer? I had no problem with them doing their job, but the angry throwing, coughing, and complaining was unacceptable. I won't go back. Granny's in Viewmont is even worse so this is the final nail in the coffin, I will never go back. Also a lot of the reviews sound like they were paid for with the way they are written. They don't sound honest. I suspect friends and family of the owners are leaving some of the reviews with how over the...
