This is the worst display of asian cuisine I have ever encountered. I dined here on 7/22. We were part of a large group, and my server Alex did the best he could. However, each time I gave him a plate, I told him it wasnt good. He never tried to recook, he never sent a manager over, no one came by and asked if everything was ok (server or manager). It was a complete breakdown in standard steps of service. Even though the errors were coming from the kitchen NO ONE CARED TO FIX THE THE PROBLEMS.
I ordered the roasted duck wrap and the hong kong wonton noodles. The duck wrap was a spectacular catastrophe. When they say served wirh hoisin, they literally mean open a can of raw hoisin, put it in a squeeze bottle, and squirt it over the plate like a new cook cook at applebees dessert station. If the cooks dindnt know how to use a sprializer, the plate would look like a toddler scribbled on it in sharpie. Then the roll. I bite into one half, all vegetables no duck. Try again, same result. Give up and try the other half. I get a mouthful of unrendered duck fat. I hat to spit out into my napkin and place it on the plate. I told alex to take it away, and it was all fat. He just whisks it away. No apology. Nothing
Next i turn to the salad that came with my noodles, but that to was impossible to eat. They put 3 oz of chopped iceberg lettuce in a bowl, the covered it with 4 fl oz of ranch. I gave it the server and told him I needed a spoon to eat a salad like this. Nothing.
The noodles hit the table and they looked great. I thought my dinner was saved. But even the greatest of dishes will fail miserably WHEN YOU DONT SEASON THE FOOD. I took the cap off the salt and tried to save the dish, but it just made the chicken stock taste bland because it wasnt made with any aromatics. No salt, no pepper, no spices, no herbs, no flavor. The wontons were cooked perfectly, but they might as well of been served in a cup of water. At this point i ask for the check. Alex comes, ask me if i need a box. I get one for my wife but i have given up on his ability to read a customer. I pay 70 and leave.
Im so disappointed. Im disappointed that i work in the same industry as people like this. I thought this was the hospitality industry. A sushi gem, its quite...
Read moreSo a friend invited me to this place for lunch. We get seated. Order is taken. Teriyaki steak hibachi with brown rice for my friend. Hibachi (soy sauce) chicken for me with white rice.
When the food does come out our rices are backwards and I have teriyaki chicken. I'm not a fan of teriyaki chicken but I did not feel like waiting to send the food back and have it replaced so I ate about a quarter of it.
The mail is about over and the waitress comes back to the table and I ask for a drink and the check. I said to her just so you're aware this is not what I ordered. I wasn't looking to have it taken off my check or anything like that.
She proceeds to pull the check out of the book on her hip look at it and tell me that it says hibachi soy sauce chicken on the receipt.. I say to her I understand that but that's not what I received just wanted you to know.
She then again straightens out the receipt points at my order and tells me that's not what I got. I literally offer her to take a bite of the food or even look at it because you can plainly see that there's teriyaki all over the chicken.
This woman literally gets irritated with me and I told her to forget it to just bring me my drink and I would pay my check.
Will I go back? Maybe. I will definitely make sure she isn't working.
Oh I just wanted to mention that the entire time there someone had queued up '80s or '90s love songs on Pandora and it was...
Read moreSave your time and money and drive to porters neck to eat better Sushi and get better service. Don't waste your time or money at Sushi Gem. Have been coming to Sushi Gem for years. Visited 2 days ago (without a mask and food was terrible). The next day I went back with some friends in hopes the previous day was just a bad day for them. However, upon walking in was notified they now require all customers to wear mask while inside the building. Since I did not have one on hand I asked for one. I was told they had some in the back and would get us one. That was great news because I really wanted to give the place one more chance from the previous day. The restaurant was completely empty. The lady walked back around the corner to come back and notify us they cannot pass out masks to customers. Not sure how they expect to stay in business with an empty restaurant and won't give customers a mask when they are requiring them. Seems like a small expense to make some money. We drove to Wilmington to try a place out in Porters Neck area of Wilmington. Wow! I am so glad we were turned away from Sushi Gem. The 10 minute drive to Wilmington to get some real fresh Sushi was the best thing! Regardless of how or why we were turned away SushiGem, the Sushi at Sushi Gem cannot even compare to the place in Wilmington. Also the service in Wilmington was 100 times better then the best day Sushi Gem. I will never return to...
