The Scoop Ice Cream & Açaí — Restaurant in North Carolina

We were recommended by Grant over at Buxton Seafood & because we spent $50 on seafood over there we got a free scoop at Chilly Hanks. I think they learned quickly it’s easy to spend 50 bucks on seafood and even easier to sell ice cream to tourists in July even without the coupon so we didn’t get another one when we went back to Buxton Seafood the next day but that’s okay because our experience at Chilly Hanks was amazing free scoop or not. My sister in law and I are both gluten free (she’s celiac and very sensitive!) so the “gluten free waffle cone” option seemed too good to be true and we had to try. Somewhere between Cinnamon Toast Crunch and a graham cracker, the cone was truly something special - even my not gluten free husband loved it - and we believe they are homemade! First of all, I don't normally give 5 star reviews unless my experience was truly exceptional. That 5th star does not come easy by me so this is serious. On this little sand bar options are few and business is hard. I heard they opened another ice cream shop and was hoping to get to try them out before the end of the season. Well it finally happened and I have to say that these folks have nailed ice cream. They have a huge selection of enticing flavors, not just the run of the mill that you find at every ice cream shop but some really interesting flavors. Not to worry though, they have a few of the standard flavors if you are perhaps a little apprehensive to try new things. I can see that these guys are well positioned for a long successful business. My youngest child has a peanut allergy so we avoid ice cream shops for him, but continue the tradition of ice cream with our older two who do not have allergies. This usually means dividing and conquering by one parent taking the older two to ice cream and the other taking the youngest out for a different kind of treat. What an amazing surprise when my husband saw that Chilly Hank's is PEANUT FREE!!! It is allergy friendly all around with lots of different options and they're knowledgeable about cross contamination. This is the first time we have been able to go to an ice cream shop as a family with no anxiety and no epipens needed. I am so thankful for this shop. We will be visiting every year.
