I have came to this waffle house a lot over the past two years and last night was the first time that I sat down and I wasn’t even acknowledged for almost 20 minutes. But on top of that the people that came in behind me and the person I was getting food with were.
Many times I’ve visited this exact waffle house with my other friends who do not eat pork and today one of us was allergic to pork. The previous cook always did a quick light scraping clean with water on the grill before putting down our meat. But we took into account but maybe that was not common practice & even though he was doing that for multiple people it may have been something that he just chose to do. So I stood up to ask our waiter if she could ask him if you could do that for us. If not we were going to ask for them to remove our meat from our order. But another waitress cut me off while I was speaking and told him he had to clean the entire grill.
He was obviously very exhausted and tired and let it be known that it was inconvenient for him. Totally understandable if I was asking him to stop cooking and clean the whole grill. But those words did not come out of my mouth and I really did not appreciate the server who spoke over me and cut me off midsentence not saying “oh sorry I must’ve got what they were trying to say messed up” When I said I didn’t ask for that.
…and said did not say anything when her coworker walked up to me and started trying to condescendingly explain to me how a grill works. I understand high stress situation. High stress job. But this left a nasty taste in my mouth and the food wasn’t even good :/
I understand they are severely understaffed. But it’s not like the waffle house was full to the brim when we were having this conversation. There was probably only 12 people sitting down in this waffle house at the time. It was just not a...
Read moreI've lived in Jax for 7 years now, and gone to this waffle house many times. This morning was hands down the worst visit ever. We walked in and they were moderately busy, no big deal...no staff even acknowledged our arrival. We waited for a table to free up and the waitress came to wipe it down quickly. We ordered, everything was ok for now. I had to ask more than once for my water. Our waffle came out a full 15 minutes before any other food made it to the table. Myself and my friend ordered our hasbrowns cooked through (well) and the entire table (4 people) got overcooked hashbrowns. Also, my sandwich had jalapeños on it when I didn't order them. When mentioning these problems to the waitress, she seemed unsure of who was supposed to have what at our table. The cook came over and I explained I didn't want potato chips as hashbrowns...I got more that tasted burnt and gave up trying to get what I'd asked for. The part that made this the most frustrating was the waitress, Lin-z, rolling her eyes when she thought nobody was watching! And then to watch her treat the table next to us entirely different because she knew them!! Obviously after that, no tip was left.
I understand 100% mistakes and things happen... but she was downright rude and your cook needs...
Read moreWaffle House is a southern staple and has become part of pop culture and especially the hip hop scene over the last couple of decades. Known for its rowdy late night scene as a popular destination for those under the influence. I had heard lots of great things but had never visited in my 12 years in the south. That changed this week and I have now visited twice and I see that continuing. The vibe is very much old school diner similar to mom and pop Greek diners you would find in New York, but with a southern flare. Service is prioritized, the lobby is set up in a way to maximize efficiency with tables bordering the front counter and food made to order directly in front of you. Prices are affordable and the menu is very customizable to your liking, just describe what you want. In a world that's becoming more and more distanced and anti social, Waffle House still has that old school breakfast hang out vibe that I very much appreciate, and despite being a giant corporation with tons of locations it remains unpretentious and down to earth. In today's world knowing this chain is available in so many locations is a privilege...
