Their Name Keeps its Promise
When we looked for a recommendable Chinese takeout in Charleston more than six years ago we needed our GPS to find this place. But what we found was worth every mile to go! Mr Chun and his lovely wife Lihua, a hardworking and very friendly couple from China, were so tied up serving their countless customers in their small restaurant and also the ones who came to pick up their orders. But it definitely paid off to line up and wait until we got what we wanted. They cooked everything exactly to our order and included all kinds of extras for free to show their appreciation to the customers. Their only imperfection was their English that was "capable of development". But they had great helpers: Their two kids Angela and her brother Carson who took orders and served as experienced cashiers. During our countless visits to Charleston we never missed eating their delicious meals, and we saw these two wonderful kids grow up. Meanwhile, Angela (14) is already a smart and sweet little lady and Carson (18) goes to college out of town. Both of them have found their way into the American Dream and support their parents whenever they can. Chinese family life. We at PHIL'S WORLD TRAVEL recommend Yum Yum Express to all our patrons who love genuine Chinese food cooked and served by warmhearted,...
Read morethe food is always amazing, but the issue i commonly run into when i want to eat here is ordering. now, im not a racist or anything but this restaurant has been around since the 80s. i’ve basically seen the owners kids grow up. but for some reason, the amount of english the owners understand has not progressed in the span of the 15 years that i’ve been eating there. i’m not expecting them to completely be fluent but goodness!! i know im nobody special to them but ive been coming here for years and order the same exact thing every time (boneless honey chicken with shrimp fried rice, amazing btw) but for some reason i have to go over the order and correct things at least 3 times. it’s not as bad when their now adult children take the order but when it’s either of the two owners taking the order it’s like pulling teeth. it’s so frustrating, and i love the food but knowing you’ll have to deal with that every time makes you wanna choose a different restaurant to...
Read moreI ordered a Pepsi and it came in a bottle, well it was flat so I asked for another and they told me I would have to pay for another one and that I should call Pepsi about it because they just bought them that morning. I told them either they give me a new one or they can just take my food back and give me back my money. Well they did give me another at no charge. We ordered the fried chicken and took a bite of it and it just didn't taste right. I asked my friend to try his and he said the same thing. It smelled bad and tasted funky. So we just ate the rice. Went in the bathroom and they had no oaper towels for your hands. They filled the paper towel holder up with toilet paper! The place was dirty that should have been my sign to turn back around and leave. I will never eat here again, hopefully I won't end up with food poisoning from taking a bite of that...
