I had an absolutely phenomenal experience at Los Altos Mexican Restaurant! From the moment I walked into their cozy, vibrant space at 2500 Martin Luther King Jr Dr, North Chicago, I was greeted with warm smiles and genuine hospitality that made me feel right at home. The atmosphere is inviting, with colorful decor that perfectly complements the authentic Mexican flavors they serve.

The menu is a treasure trove of deliciousness, and every dish we tried was a masterpiece. The quesabirria tacos were out of this world—juicy, cheesy, and packed with bold, savory flavors, served with a consomé that I could sip all day. The enchiladas verdes were perfectly balanced, with tender chicken and a tangy, fresh salsa that danced on my taste buds. Even the chips and salsa were exceptional, clearly made with care and the freshest ingredients.

The service was impeccable; the staff was attentive, friendly, and passionate about ensuring we had a great time. Our food came out quickly, piping hot, and beautifully presented. I also love that they offer convenient options like takeout and delivery, making it easy to enjoy their incredible food anywhere.

The food here was so delicious. I have not been this happy in a while with Mexican food in my area. Los Altos is amazing. We ordered an order of the quezabirrias with the consome. So delicious. The meat, the stew, just fantastic! My sister and i each had an order of Chilaquiles. One order of green and one red. Both were super delicious. The red ones were actually a bit spicy and have a taste of chipotle peppers which was exactly what i was craving. The green ones were super tasty as well. The tamal we tried was really good too with the ranchero sauce topping. We took a torta de milanesa to go and some fries. My husband really enjoyed it. The milanesa was juicy and tasty. And all the sauces at the restaurant were really good as well. I am very happy to finally have a good restaurant in the Waukegan area. I will definitely be telling all my friends and people i know about this restaurant. UPDATE Went back recently a few weeks ago for the red chilaquiles, BOMB. They are still super delicious. Anyone looking for good chilaquiles, best in waukegan area for sure.The chips are fresh and they will get soggy if you're trying to get home so i recommend dine in. Ate here today for a late lunch and was very disappointed. The wrong entree was brought out but I wasn't too bothered with the swap and was reassured by the waitress that the rest of my order would be brought out. This was fine with me as either entree would be ok. However , I ordered a dinner that came with rice and beans and obviously expected to still get my rice and beans. After awhile when it didn't show up, I went up to ask about getting the rest of my order. I was told because the price of the wrong entree that I got was the same as my entire dinner that I would not be getting the rest of what I ordered and had already paid for.

This is unacceptable to me. If you make a mistake and admit to that mistake, you make it right for the customer. I paid for a dinner that included rice and beans and I should still get what I paid for. In hindsight, I would have stopped her and asked her to take back the food if I had known about the price difference so I could get what I ordered. Food was fine but I won't be back if this is how customers are...
