The Straw Hat Sundae Shop — Restaurant in North East

I grew up in North East and Straw Hat was a solid piece of my childhood. It is SO amazing to visit and see that it is still operating in a similarly nostalgic way. I was able to bring my kids and show them this awesome place that I used to walk to as a kid and it felt extra special. The girl working was SO kind and interacted with my kids which makes the whole experience that much better. They both ordered ice cream cones and we sat on the benches and it was a great experience. I can't wait to take them back and am so thankful that The Straw Hat is still the same staple that it always has been and that now I can share it with my kids! Cut to the chase: great ice cream, nasty service. We were there yesterday afternoon and my husband and I were so put off that we decided a review was in order so that the owners might know. When we got there, there were only 2 other people getting ice cream (not busy). The girl at the order window (tall with heavy black eyeliner in “wings”) neither greeted us, nor thanked us, nor even could manage the slightest smile. She was one of the most unpleasant counter staff we’ve ever encountered. The other girl there who handed us our ice cream wasn’t much better. A friend told me about this place since he's from the area and I am vacationing. This little ice cream shop sells both Perry's ice cream (I'm not familiar) and Penn State ice cream. There was only a couple flavors that interest me... Peach and coconut chip. I went with the coconut chip ice cream, both from Penn State. It is delicious, has so much chips. They offer free small soft serve ice cream with a Milkbone to dogs. I have 2 little ones but only asked for one that they can share. The free doggie size ice cream is so cute!
