Went to J&A for dinner and a beer. Service started out great and we order fried pickle chips which were very good. Next, I ordered a cheese burger pizza which came out burnt around the edges and underdone in the middle. My husband ordered the catfish (he loves it and has had it many times at other restaurants). However, his catfish was fried with the skin still on (as well as breaded). It was slimy, chewy, and smelled extremely rotten. He couldn’t even eat the tatertots that came with it because it also smelled of rot. We had to go to the bar to ask for our check (server never checked on us after receiving food) and the owner was there asking how we liked our food. We weren’t going to say anything but it was so horrible we felt like we needed to. The owner said they’d take some money off but when we paid they did not take anything off. The waiter claimed they took 10% ($3.97) but it “was added back with the use of card”. Ridiculous. The bar also reeked of vomit. Stay far away...

Best bar in the Iowa City area! I recently had my bday party here, it was epic. If you bring in 10 or more people you get free beer for the night. The staff was incredibly friendly and prompt. I loved the security, whom checked bags and made me feel extra safe. The management was very accommodating! The karaoke set up was great as was the dj/kj.
