A tasty little meal located in a slightly quirky atmosphere, Camp Nowhere offers a short menu filled with difficult choices. Everything sounds so good, you kinda want to get one of everything. The food was good and the service was great, but what about the details?
I will begin with the semantics.
Sliders, traditionally, are steamed, not grilled. This is not a hill I will die on - it isn't something I'd hold over anyone, but when I say slider in this review, I mean either a mini burger or sandwich. Not a White Castle or classical slider.
With that out of the way, my dining companion and I ordered a plethora of sliders and mixed and matched so we could taste a wide variety of little sandwiches.
The least of the lot was the Ultimate Beef Slider. Dry, griddled beef was not what I expected to be hidden within the delicious bun. It needed added condiments, which is far from ultimate for me.
The Chicken Parmasean slider was a bit better. It was actually better chicken parm than I had at some Italian restaurants. Nice amount of sauce, chicken wasn't too dry, and the flavour was good.
Firecracker Chicken I think is what they called the Buffalo Chicken sandwich. Mild spice and ample sauciness makes this a clear winner when placed against the chicken parm.
The Beef Short Rib slider is the king. It is flavorful, juicy, meaty - my goodness it was heavenly. A step above the rest of the sliders on offer, make sure to check this one out.
As a side, I had tater tots with chili, bacon, and cheese. A great side - crisp tater tots and a goodly amount of toppings, they were a great accompaniment to the sliders.
I finished up with the S'Mores, and they were perfect. Nice and melty chocolate with a good roast on the marshmallow. I'd never take the time to make a S'mores on my own - it is kind of a hassle to do at home, so I gotta say this is 100% worth getting if you like S'mores.
The service was really good - kind, patient, and fast. Ideal, really.
The atmosphere is good. It has the feeling of a community place with a fun vibe. It has a lot of character which is enhanced by the choices of furnishings and the presentation of your food.
I would certainly go back, but my attention would be focused more on the sliders on the right side of the menu over the more plain...
Read morefirst time trying camp nowhere we were greeted by a hostess and informed they were booked. we were told we could visit their sister restaurant. we sat in our car trying to figure out where else we could go, then we saw someone come out with a menu and we realized we could order take out. why didn't the hostess offer that as an option? went inside to place my order and was helped by a very friendly gentleman. I noticed the owners in the corner, I recognized them from phantom gourmet. I chatted a little with them and was impressed with their demeanor as well the guy who waited on me. I paid, tipped him and took my drinks and cups of ice to the car to wait for my order. I went back in 25 min to check on my order and was told it was not ready. I went in again 15 min later and it was ready. the hostess gave me my order and I asked about the t-shirts they were selling. She told me all about the shirts and a gentleman came and said he'd check the office for my size. I asked the hostess if I could order another drink as well and she rang up the drink but never made it, instead she grabbed one already bottled and gave it to me, I noticed it was warm and asked for a cup of ice and she said no we don't have take out cups{i had just received cups of ice with my previous order}. At that point the nice gentleman returned from the office with my t-shirt, I paid him, thanked him and left. My friend went back in to ask why the hostess was not very friendly or accommodating and she returned with a cup of ice. we drove off to a park 5 min away to eat only to discover the food we had waited so long for was ice cold. Cold tots, and two orders of cold eggplant sliders. my short rib was the only thing hot. What a disappointment ,Here I had been wanting to try the place I'd heard so much about and this was my experience. On the bright side I have to say I was so impressed with the gentleman that took my order and my brief conversation with the owners that I would be willing to give this place...
Read moreI've been here a lot and the service is usually great but I have no clue what happened tonight. There was only one server and he seemed like he was having a bad night so I don't want to judge but honestly, we had a horrible time. First off the table we sat at was split in half or broken, and our knees were touching the whole time. We ordered our food and it took an hour to come out; people who arrived after us were getting theirs 10 minutes after ordering while we waited. Around the 45-minute mark, we asked where it was and told him if it wasn't ready we would just leave. He said it was coming so we held out. The food arrives and it's decent (it tasted like the price) he also gave us a "complimentary" extra order of sandwiches and a drink on the house for my partner. Great! We felt a lot better. He comes with the check and we give our card without checking the bill because it's getting late and we have spent an hour and a half here now. We got the bill to sign and noticed it seemed way higher (we ordered about 28 of stuff and the bill came out to over 40 dollars) so we asked for an itemized bill. He said that he couldn't print it but he comped us for both orders of chicken sandwiches. The math is simply not matching so I did the math on a napkin and he charged us for everything he said was comped. If we didn't notice we would've been super overcharged for a 5/10 meal that took an hour to come out. After we alerted him he refunded us and the bill came out right but honestly this left such a bad taste in my mouth. How are you charging someone for food they didn't ask for and that you said you were giving for free? Will not be returning anytime...
