Okay so hereâs the thing. I love Royâs. I loved it before it was sold, and even after. But we had a TERRIBLE experience here last weekend. We came in for breakfast, there was 7 of us. Three of us got there a bit after the other four, and it took about fifteen minutes for a waitress to come take our drink order. Then, when we finally get to order our food, about another thirty minutes later, the waitress tells us that this is her first morning shift working there. Thatâs fine, we get it, no big deal. But then the actual issues started.
We never got asked if we wanted refills on our drinks for what felt like forever. Everyone that had coffee at the table had to wait and wait for her to come ask. Then, come to find out thereâs a ton of coffee grounds in their cups. Finally when she comes over, two of us asked for new cups because of the grounds. We were met with attitude. Then we were out of cream, no big deal, except when we asked for more, we were ignored. We had to ask a second time and the waitress we asked huffed, rolled her eyes and threw them down on the table.
My FIL asked for the blood Mary flight when we got there (it was 10:30), not realizing that you couldnât get them until after 11. When he asked, the waitress got an attitude and said that the bartender was too busy making other flights but he could get a regular Bloody Mary (huh? So you can get other flights but not the blood Mary ones?).
The table behind us was waiting for their food for so long they were about to walk out. When the woman told the waitress that they were going to leave, she said their food was coming and that there was only one cook today (wild). It took another fifteen minutes for their food to come out (I felt so bad for these people). When they got their food I noticed that they said that half of it was cold or inedible. They barely ate any of it, paid and left.
At this point we have been here for well over and hour. Weâre starving and starting to get irritated. Waitress comes out and tells us that the two people who ordered breakfast wraps canât have them because theyâre out of tortillas. Our order was taken almost an hour before that and they just realized??? Absolutely wild. We decided we were tired of waiting and let them know we were leaving and wanted to pay for our drinks and go. The waitress was super huffy about it and stomped away.
We ended up going to a different local diner for breakfast. We got seated right away, our order taken, and food served and hot in less time that it took for us to get our drink orders taken at Royâs. And this other diner (I wonât say the name because thatâs not the goal here), was absolutely packed.
I donât know what was going on this day, but I am so incredibly disappointed in how this whole experience went. We will likely not be back for a long time. Which is a bummer because I enjoy it there. But maybe take some of the money yall are paying to upgrade and remodel and hire some more people so that your current ones arenât so burnt out that theyâre getting huge attitudes with...
Read moreRoy's recent change in ownership brought about a noticeable effort to enhance the overall ambiance, but unfortunately, it comes at a price â quite literally. The establishment has undergone a series of upgrades, and these renovations are reflected in the inflated menu prices.
One of the longstanding favorites at Roy's has been their pasta, a consistent offering at $5.50 since the 90s. However, patrons were in for a surprise when the price suddenly spiked by 50% to $7.50 overnight. To make matters worse, the quality of the pasta seems to have taken a hit, diminishing by another 50%. This significant increase in cost without a corresponding improvement in quality leaves a bitter taste in the mouths of loyal customers.
The burgers, another staple at Roy's, have also seen a substantial price hike. Formerly priced at $4.25, they now stand at $6.00 â a staggering 70% increase. Unfortunately, the additional cost doesn't seem to correlate with an improvement in taste. Instead, there's an unwelcome addition of a 1/4 inch of burnt crust on the patties, which feels more like an unwanted alteration than an enhancement.
In a perplexing move, Roy's charged no extra for the pasta added to the burger, replacing the requested lettuce and mayo. This unexpected substitutions adds to the frustration of the dining experience.
Once a reliable choice for a working man's lunch, Roy's now stands as a stark example of gentrification and profit-driven ownership. While the aesthetic improvements may appeal to some, the essence of what made Roy's a cherished spot for many seems to be fading away, replaced by a sense of discontent...
Read moreWorst service I ever had in my life! Food was good, but the service was so terrible, that I can't even give them another try. And never in my life have I ever been automatically charged for gratuity with 4 people in the group! When we inquired about the automatic tip being added, the waitress said it's their policy for groups of 5 or more, we responded, there are 4 of us. Then she said well since your bill is over $50 it's automatic. I said shouldn't you tell people that? She said we have it posted. So of course I decided to go see where it was posted. Never saw it, so I asked to see the posting. I was told that it wasn't actually posted, that it's just a policy that they recently put into place! Really?! That's absurd. I have NEVER tipped less than 20 â°/â°. In my life. But to be forced to tip for terrible service, was very disappointing. Is this really their policy? Automatic tip for a check over $50?! They never even asked if it was going to be on 1 check. We waited at least 10 minutes to get a menu, 15 minutes to get a drink, 15 more to get waited on. No napkins, no condiments. I'm disappointed because the food was actually...
