Edit: June 2017. there was a dead roach under my chair while i was waiting for my food!
everything stands true below, except the prices went up, and the quality went down at mercedes restaurant. i decided to give them another shot being so close and all.
i got the steak breakfast burrito xhot, and carne asada fries xhot. total was almost 16 bucks (tamale kitchen is only 12 for the same meal).
x-hot Steak Chili Cheese Fries - $5.99 + $1.50 + .50cents (mercedes) x-hot Carne Asada fries - 6.99. (tamale kitchen)
Quality/flavor easily go to tamale kitchen, by far. we are talking 2/5 stars for mercedes, 4/5 (maybe 5/5 some days) stars to tamale kitchen. the fries are tiny and soggy at mercedes, and the green chili was mediocre at best. Also, there was some kind of slime in my fries, and a crunchy thing that tasted like an eggshell or a bug.
the breakfast burrito tasted like they used frozen hash browns for their potato in the burrito (gross), and the burrito itself was almost all tortilla. for the price i paid for that, i could have gotten a mega burrito xtra hot with sour cream for probably less honestly.
i would not eat here, drive a little further and just go to tamale kitchen, this place is fully crossed off my list.
(original review below) i like to review after eating there a couple times, and trying a couple different things. my first visit to this restaurant, i tried 3 types of breakfast burritos, and the second time i tried tamales and green chili. now with this review, i am going to compare them to the "go to" busiest mexican kitchen up here in northglenn, and that is tamale kitchen.
insides are about equal as far as decore and cleanliness go (both are typical hole in the wall tasty goodness type places), although tamale kitchen feels a bit bigger inside. __ Tamale Kitchen Mega Burrito = 7 bucks (you get all the meats, and everything inside)
Mercedes Restaurant Mega Burrito = 7 bucks (only get 2 meats, and i think cheese and chili inside is extra (xtra hot is 50cents more) Tamale kitchen Tamales = small, mostly mesa, kind of dry, kind of feel factory produced. $7 per dozen
Mercedes Restaurant Tamales = large, good meat to mesa ratio, but have a weird taste, and have too much sauce on the inside, so it makes it kinda slimy. $12 per dozen. Tamale Kitchen Green Chili = pretty damn tasty, but average for green chili found in the denver area. $3.25 per Pint, and you can get it in mild, medium, hot, extra hot, and flaming.
Mercedes Restaurant Green Chili = Pretty tasty (maybe a little less than Tkitchen), but also average for green chili found in the denver area. $6.50 per Pint, and you can get it in mild, medium, hot, and extra hot. as you can see, for green chili and tamales, it is almost double the price at mercedes restaurant, and i wouldn't necessarily say they are twice as good (though the tamale's are twice the size, they both have their shortcomings, and to me are about equal), but that is for you to decide. i will say i feel that for the price, tamale kitchen has slightly better breakfast burritos, but Mercedes Kitchen has STEAK breakfast burritos (decent!). One more thing worth noting, Mercedes Restaurant is about 1/15th as busy, so getting in and out is a lot easier, so if you don't have time, and don't mind paying more, this would be a good...
Read moreMy wife and I were at the opening of the brewery Beer by Design and when we left we thought we would stop by Mercedes Mexican for a burrito. I ordered a Chicken Burrito Deluxe smothered with Hot Green Chili and my wife ordered the same with mild chili. We were going to eat there so we sat down. Our food was brought out to us and the waitress said here is you MEDIUM burrito to my wife and here is your hot. My wife cut into her burrito and said that it had beans in it with the chicken. I checked mine and it was the same. We waived our waitress down and told her about the mistake. We own a business and like to be thoughtful to other businesses so I told the waitress that I would not make them produce a new burrito for me. My wifes was too hot so she had hers changed. So here I was with my burrito and my wife with nothing so we ordered some enchiladas so we could try them out. We had paid for our meal at the counter when we ordered so the enchiladas would have to be paid for at the end of the meal. The bill was brought and it was for the full amount of the enchiladas. I thought that she would have given me the credit for the Bean and Chicken burrito with this bill and she did not. The difference was a dollar. I asked her about it and she said that she could not do it because her drawer would be short. I asked to speak with the manager and she said that the owner was not there and she was in charge. She went to the back and came out complaining that I was asking for a dollar back. She got on the phone and was acting mad and giving us the look the whole time she was walking around the dining room. She came back to us and said that the owner said that she would do it but only this time. We were sort of shocked to hear this. I told here that all I wanted to do was to pay for what was served to me and that was the only right thing to do was to correct my bill. She said well apparently you need the dollar more than we do. I told her that it was not about the dollar it was about what was right. She could not see that. She said that she would have taken the burrito back and replaced it. I told her that it would cost the business more money to replace my burrito than to refund the difference. She could not see this either. She also said that if we had not cut into the burrito that she could have reused the food for someone else. We said that even if we did not cut into the food that in no circumstance should the food be reused for other guests. She said that they get a lot of complaints. We were surprised to hear her admit to this. We said that they will not stay in business if they do not make customers happy and she said that a lot of people tell them that also. Again very surprised. I gave her my card to have the owner give me a call. Now thinking about that I am worried about their ethics and...
Read moreFood was inedible. Immediately spit it out and complained. They defended their food and said we have good reviews. The food didn't even taste like Mexican food. It was cold and tasted like some sanitizer or cleaner. I'm very sick from it and they didn't even try to fix anything and acted like it was my fault. I will never go back here. And I called the health department because there was something wrong with my plate of food. My nephew was ok but he had something different. However, he said a breakfast burrito was better at a gas station. He tried my enchilada and steak burrito and immediately spit it out also. I had 2 bites of the enchilada and 2 bites of the steak burrito. The beans were like soup and everything was cold, like you tried to microwave it. The enchilada was supposed to have red sauce and it was brown and cold also. We ordered and it came out in 5 min. There's no way it was fresh! I Did not consume half of it. Don't insult my intelligence please. Mexican food is my favorite I eat it all the time. The best that I know of is Casa Del Rey or El Jardin. You should go there and taste what it should taste like. I threw up from it and had diarrhea and no appetite for 3 days. To your response about everyone loves your food is not true. I see you going bankrupt in your future. Furthermore I used to eat your breakfast burritos all the time back in 2015 when I lived close and they were good. That's why I went there when El Jardin was closed. Something was wrong and a real business owner or manager would address the customers problem instead of having a huge ego and telling them they are wrong! Pride comes before the fall! Does your chef taste the food? You can die from food poisoning yet you say I ate half! Liar! I have pictures. Take a real good look in the mirror. It was like when you clean the refrigerator out and put some leftover food in it and tried it in a week and it was bad. A responsible owner or manager would have investigated it before telling me I was wrong! It's called passion to please! This is why Red lobster is closing a bunch of restaurants, cuz their service and quality went in the toilet. That meal you wouldn't refund me will probably cost you more than my refund. You Don't get it! It wasn't about the money, it was about the cold foul tasting food you brought me in 5 min. You can't make what I ordered fresh in 5 min. On the review I gave, the lowest I could give was one star. Is was a negative 5 stars! You insinuate that I hate half my meal and complained cuz I wanted something for free. I'm pretty sure i make more money every week than you're failing business. Invite Chef Ramsey...
