I have heard a lot about how good their wings are from different people over the past few years and I'm always looking for a good hot wings spot since there doesn't seem to be any around. It was about 4 in the afternoon and the parking lot was completely empty. We weren't actually sure if they were open and when we tried to call there was of course no answer. This should have been our queue to move along but we decided to go in anyways. The atmosphere was that of a local dive bar which didn't really bother me. When you walk in there is a big room with booth seating along the walls on each side, a few tables and chairs in the middle, and the bar in the back through an open doorway so it's kind of separated. There were a few dart boards hanging up, not sure if they actually had the darts themselves. It honestly would have been better if they had a pool table, I think it would be fitting for the atmosphere. I didn't really mind that but what I found was weird it how empty it was, I mean nobody was there. The waitress was an older woman and she sat us and took our order. The service was okay although she seemed a little pushy and in a hurry even though we were pretty much the only ones there. I ordered regular(medium) wings crispy and wet and an order fries and my sister order the same wings with mozz sticks and potato skins. Let me tell you...the potato skins were just that. No cheese no bacon no topping just plain fried potato skin. I guess you can get it with a cheese sauce on the side which is what she brought out with it and it tasted like cheap movie theater nacho cheese. Even if it had toppings, the slices were so thick and full of potato that it would have overpowered the toppings anyways. This was honestly the only time i have ever seen potato skins that were plain. I felt it was misleading and for almost $8 it's definitely not what we were expecting. The mozz sticks were okay, I mean ya can't really go wrong, they're just like any other dollar store frozen sticks. Then she brings out the wings and they were absolutely tiny, I don't know if I've ever seen any that small. They were crispy but super dry after I had emphasized about 3 times while ordering that I had wanted them wet meaning with plenty of sauce. So I asked for more sauce and the waitress told me there would be a charge of $1.50 ( which ended up actually being $1.75 on the bill but whatever). She brought out a small solo container of the "sauce" and the first thing I noticed is how greasy it was and how it separated. There must have been too much butter or oil in it because it didn't hardly stick to the wings. The sauce was odd tasting with a strong garlic flavor not that I dislike that but usually not expected with a buffalo sauce on chicken wings. I didn't care for it too much. It almost tasted like garlic butter with a tad of hot sauce. It wasn't spicy at all, didn't taste like the usual buffalo sauce flavor, and was super greasy. The fries were thick crinkle cuts they needed to be heavily salted. All in all I would not recommend it here if you are looking for good wings I would keep looking. I mean it could have been a bad order but even at best all I can chalk it up as is low...
Read moreHUGE LETDOWN! We entered the restaurant at a time while it wasn’t very busy, and we weren’t acknowledged, never mind seated for a long time. Then, we were seated in an awkward corner table wedged tightly between two other booths. It was then another long wait until our order was taken. We ordered two orders of wings on the tamer side, as well as onion rings. The next long wait for a food wasn’t made any better by the lack of music, heat, or tv. The onion rings were supremely underwhelming; they were very skimpy in their portion, especially considering they were $9! I seriously can’t express how disappointing those rings were. The wings came out basically immediately after the rings, which was right on par with everything else this place had to offer. They were extremely small, as well as being few in quantity. The texture as well as the flavor was also very disappointing. After being served, we were never followed up with or checked in on; we actually never even received our bill. We were tired of waiting and calculated the cost ourselves and left cash on the table. We had more sense than the couple sitting near us who was there before us and was still there when we left because they hadn’t been given their check. There was also another party of folks waiting soon after we arrived that was never taken care of by the time we left. We left the restaurant hungry and unhappy, I would give the place 0...
Read moreWendell's is sort of an institution in Norton, and for good reason, they've been around for many years, serving some of the best tasting wings in Mass, easily top 2 in my book (Buffs pub in Newton is great as well). The service is slow (they only have 1 cook in a tiny kitchen), the waitresses are less than stellar, they only take cash (no credit or debit cards), and the room is very dimly lit. Having said all of this, you go there for one reason and one reason only, the wings. Wendell's has various levels of hot from the sissy to the suicidal wings, each with their own distinctive taste and sauce, being served in two very old wooden bowls, when you open the top of the bowl, the wings are covered in the sauce of your choosing and they smell heavenly. The one large room with tables is clean, although the decor hasn't changed since it opened and it shows, haha. You can also purchase their sauce which is hands down the best damn wing sauce you'll ever taste, I know people that live in Boston that actually drive down to Wendell's in Norton (45 minute ride) just to buy their sauce for parties they're having, it's THAT good. Yes, the wings may be small and they charge you for blue cheese dressing, but again, you're going for the wings, so enjoy the best tasting wings in the state, and keep your expectations low for the rest of the experience, and you'll have...
