Damo Sushi — Restaurant in Oʻahu

If I could give this place no stars, I would. Never mind that COVID numbers are on the rise, what about food handling best practices? I know people make mistakes, which was the case when my order was given to the wrong customer. Customer left and returned nearly 3-5 minutes later, claiming “this is not my order”. The correct order was than given to her, she left. I was curious and asked if that was mine. When he responded that it was mine, I asked if he could redo the order for obvious reasons (unknown takes food to car, opens food, realizes it’s not hers, returns to establishment). He was more than happy to do so but the lady in the kitchen absolutely refused and demanded that he not throw it away. In fact, she kept asking why I didn’t want it, expressed how long it would take to redo order, and seemed frustrated at my request. She than began to open the bag in a back room that I could observe through the curtain, placing trays, covers, and placing containers inside of buckets so she could conceal them and sneak them to the kitchen - out of my view - for repacking. Guess she forgot the basics in anatomy - I am nearly 6 ft compared to her 5 -I could see the containers being snuck out of the bag and into the kitchen. Overall a disappointing experience. I had a craving for fried sushi rolls and my go-to sushi spot is closed on Mondays. I looked up the Damo sushi menu and picked my rolls from a picture of the menu. Only to find out at the register that the prices have risen 20% from the prices pictured on the menu. I paid $33 for 2 rolls and ordered nothing else. That's a very expensive meal for 1! The price shock was the second most disappointing part....there was NO GINGER OR WASABI with my rolls. How can you not include those two crucial pieces?! A sad pile of Romaine lettuce was in my to-go containers, I tried the dressing and liked it, but let the rest go to waste. Miso soup cups also came with it and had 1/4 cup of liquid each. Although the rolls were tasty, the tempura coating was extremely uneven and there was a large dried out piece of tuna on one end. On Wednesday August 13, I ordered 3 different poke nachos (1 mini, 1 regular, 1 combo) along with 8 pieces of the spicy ahi wontons and maybe about 10 minutes after ordering they experienced a minor speed bump and let me tell you, the cashier was absolutely fantastic. There was probably 4 orders ahead of me but we all experienced this speed bump and she made every effort to make things right for the customers, she stepped right in and said she had 8 years of sushi making experience and got right to it, she DID NOT let the boat sink! What a hammah! On top of that, every order ahead of me and mine included all came with something free to make up for the wait time and my mini poke nachos were upgraded to a regular as well. this kind of customer service is so hard to find, she is someone who will go above and beyond to make sure their customers are happy and I will definitely be back again and will recommend this place to...
