So after seeing an advertisement and reading all the reviews, I had to try it. It looked better as a sit down place so you can get all the banchan so we decided to wait until we could afford an evening to sit and enjoy everything. We got there on a Mon evening around 6, and it was pretty empty. We sat ourselves and looked through the menu. As I've said before, I always try the kalbi meat and meat jun plate wherever I go.... Just so I have an even comparison. My husband got the bi bim bop and we got a plate of the fried mandoo. I was going to get some chop chae for my son, but he said they were running low but would bring a side of it for my son no charge. Sweet.
Our drinks, sides, and mandoo came out fairly quickly. ALL the sides were great. My little 18 month old enjoyed the noodles and cucumbers with seaweed. The kim chee had some good kick to it and the cucumber kim chee still had some crunch to it, just how I like it. We were also served pancake, bean sprouts, and cabbage. More sides were brought out upon request. My husband said his bi bim bop was really good... I tasted it and it was ok, but then again, it's not something that I eat... like ever. My kalbi had a lot of flavor. It wasn't the short rib cut style I was used to in other Korean restaurants, but it was still very good. The meat was VERY TENDER. The meat jun was ok... it wasn't no Youngs but it was definitely better than Tasty's/Yummy's.
The service was fast and friendly. Our table was clean and our food was delicious. The location is hidden behind Times in Waipahu, but convenient enough for us as we are always in Waipahu. Our bill for the 2 meals, and the 7 pc mandoo (which some how I only had 2 of) came out to $30. Not bad considering that we can easily spend $25 at McDonalds or Wendy's or something. Not sure if I would get them as a take-out only because I really like a lot of sides and like most places like this, they just give the standard small sides as opposed to a place like Tasty's who give a ton of sides.
Bottom line, I would come back to this place again if I had some time to sit. I would give this place a 4.5 if I could, but I shall be nice and give them 5 since the man gave us a nice portion of the chop chae as a free...
Read moreAte here recently and we both really enjoyed ourselves. We live Mililani side and we were bummed to find out that Dong Yangs is closed for renovation or something and were looking for an alternative to get our Korean BBQ fix. We stumbled upon this gem and we're glad we did! The food was great and the flavors were definitely awesome. My wife ordered the vegetable Jun and I ordered the fish Jun. Both of our meals came quickly and HOT! We were also pleased to know that we could get refills of the side dishes: kimchi, seaweed, kimchi cucumbers, shoyu noodles, bean sprouts, and some sort of potato patty (??).
We definitely recommend this gem if you live on this side of the island - it was tasty and oddly enough it was empty when we initially arrived for dinner at 6:00 pm on a Sunday evening. Although it did get quite busy at around 6:30 pm. Parking is few and seating is also few - so plan...
Read moreToday, I came to travel alone I was lost. I could not speak English and I found this place for 5 hours and asked for help with joy. The boss taught me the way, exchanged the coins for the bus ride, and gave Pepsi Cola. I had no money or credit card other than bus fare, so I had no way to pay back my favor.
I will come back here and pay back grace in the years to come. I have not tried it, but I know it is...
