El Taco Chico — Restaurant in Oak Park

As a member of the Latino community, this was by far the biggest disappointment in terms of Mexican food. The carne asada tacos were ground beef with no seasoning at all and the tortillas were not cooked, which means everything was falling apart all over. The “refried beans” were runny and the consistency of diarrhea, for lack of a better description. The rice was not Mexican rice, it was steamed with some sort of small canned carrots and had no flavor whatsoever. The crunchy tacos were awful! They were reminiscent of elementary school taco Tuesday tacos and I can honestly say that Taco Bell and Jack in the Box have better tacos with flavor. The salsa was undoubtedly from a bottle and it tasted like ground up tomatoes with nothing in it. In conclusion, this is not Mexican food!! Whoever is cooking the food has no idea what Mexican food is, how it is made, or what it tastes like. P.S.- I have never in my life heard of a good Mexican restaurant with a “Finger Plate Extravaganza”...

We are visiting California and saw the reviews on this place were ok. But I dont think Im on the same place. The lady that helped us was really nice but the food was not up to the same customer service par. We ordered $119.00 worth of food and the only good thing was the chicken torta one of us ordered. 3 people ordered sopes and they sope was hard on everyone's plates, the carnitas on them were ok though. My daughters did not want to finish them. My husband and I had al pastor tacos, one of my tacos was very chewi and couldn't even eat it. My husband's were good he said. It’s not even worth the one star given, but the owner was nice. My son and I ordered take out to try the new restaurant. Unfortunately, the food was HORRIBLE and very slow service!!! My son ordered shrimp tacos, he received deep fried popcorn shrimp in a corn tortilla, nothing else. Also ordered the carne asada tacos, the meat tasted old and maybe had 1 sprig of cilantro and a couple pieces of onion. The menu is weird and all over the place.They haven’t figured out if it’s American (wraps, burgers, sandwiches,fries), Latin( tacos, papusas) or a coffee bar (coffee drinks). Are they trying to compete with Margaritas restaurant, Breakfast Cafe restaurant or Starbucks?? Not even close!
