The first time my boyfriend and I came here back in January, we had an amazing time. Great service, clean looking servers, amazing food, great drinks, and the location is pretty (we sat inside). It seemed like a fine dining/moderately fancy restaurant that we could come back for on holidays to celebrate but not spend too much money at. It was perfect, and when we left, we even recommended the place to quite a few people. Saying it was an amazing experince.
We came back for his birthday on July 10th, and we were both extremely disappointed. The servers were no longer wearing professional/nice clothes, but all in this neon pink shirt that had the name of the restaurant on it. Which is fine, but it definelty did not seem like a decent fancy restaurant and definetly took away from the clean and elegant experince. We sat outside this time as well. The table was not level, and the ground was not very clean, with pigeons in the outside seating hut. The birds were fine, but other customers were trying to shoo them, and they would fly basically through our table. I am not discrediting the restaurant for the birds (obviously they can't control everything) but it made us uncomfortable, and the people next too us were being rude as well, shooing birds and putting their feet up basically less than 2 feet away from our dining table. We will definetly not be sitting outside again due to sanitary reasons. Also I don't know if its just me, but an uneven table drives me crazy during a meal.
After we were seated, we did not see a waitress for almost 30 minutes. Throughout these 30 minutes 3 other tables got seated, and were asked what drinks they wanted to order by the waitress. Then the waitress did one big circle to all of the 4 tables (the 3 plus our table) to take our order. But she asked us last. We ended up ordering all of our food at that point, drinks, apps, and entree, in fear that we would be ignored again and have to wait again to order more. After talking is over with my boyfriend, we were fed up with it. We were hungry, and seeing the other 3 tables orders be put in before our own, was too much to wait. Especially since we had reservations and I know at least 2 of the other tables did not have reservations. Since we were trying to celebrate, we left, and asked the waitress to cancel our order.
I'm not sure if the restaurant changed ownership, or what but it does not feel like the semi fine dining experience anymore. The servers are not very clean looking, service was slow and unorganized. As well as the outside seating not being up to par, sent us away. We were hoping the amazing food would have helped us enjoy ourselves, but we didn't even get to it because all of these other factors took away from the experience. Our first time was 5 stars no doubt, but now I'm struggling...
Read more"I was brought to tears." Not being from around here, I checked the reviews online for any Thai food restaurants in the area and found this gem. My experience at Daughter Thai Kitchen can only be described as heavenly.
We found free street parking, since it was after 6pm. Otherwise, there is a fee for parking at the restaurant and on the street.
The entry to the restaurant has beautiful purple hanging flowers. They look even better at nighttime. My family and I took some great pictures here.
We made a reservation and were promptly seated in the restaurant. Outdoor seating is available. The atmosphere is light and fun. Everything is clean and nicely decorated. The music is upbeat and not outdated.
We ordered specialty drinks, Classic Thai tea with shaved ice, Thai tea limeade, and Flower Tea. Each tasted great and weren't too bitter or sweet. The presentation for each drink was fun and unique. For example, the shaved ice was like an ice cream scoop on the top.
We ordered the Ahi Scoops for our appetizer. These were served as four small individual plates. The flavors pop in your mouth. There's some spice, but it is not overwhelming, unless you are sensitive to spicy food.
For our main dishes we had Pad Thai with chicken, Thai fried rice, Pad Kee Mow, and Tom Yum. Each of these we ordered with chicken. The flavors were amazing. The chicken was moist and fresh. The noodles were also moist and the flavors were simple, yet complex. Everyone shared dishes and were Wow'd by each one.
Finally, let's talk about dessert. No one walked in thinking we would order dessert. After having such great food, we knew that we had to try at least one dessert. Well we ordered two! The Mango sticky rice was in season and the Bread pudding was recommended by our server. Each one was beautiful and delicious. See the pictures.
Last and most important, the incredible team at Daughter Thai Kitchen. From the warm greeting by the host, prompt seating, clean dishes and utensils being promptly swapped, water glasses being refreshed, and to the friendly waiter with excellent recommendations. It couldn't have been a better experience for my family and I.
Thank you so much! We will visit again and tell everyone about Daughter...

Context… my family has ALWAYS loved coming to daughter restaurant in Montclair and Farmhouse kitchen in jack London for lunch or dinner a few times a month regularly. After tonight never again. With unlimited restaurant options to choose from in the bay, my mom chose daughter to celebrate her birthday tonight. When we arrived I let the hostess and waitress know it was my moms birthday and we would like to celebrate her. As a table of 3 We enjoyed multiple appetizers, cocktails and 4 full entrees to share while multiple happy birthday chants rang out across the restaurant to different customers . As our plates were being cleared and boxes brought out I was patiently waiting for my Moms turn to be serenaded by the obnoxious but fun loud drum and happy birthday chant that we heard multiple times throughout the night. When I realized this wasn’t coming after they dropped the check I kindly reminded our waitress it was my moms birthday to which she replied “ you didn’t buy dessert we only sing when you pay for dessert.” I was shocked and said we are too stuffed for dessert and if there was anyway they could still sing and she said NO. I sat back at our table and busted out my own happy birthday tune to which multiple tables joined in and made my mom feel special. My take from tonight is this restaurant is anything but high end but more of...
