Olympic Steak & Pizza - Oakland — Restaurant in Oakland

First time, my overall experienced was ruined by the lady behind the cash register/counter. I walk in read their specials board... and stepped further into restaurant. It is Friday about 7:30 and restaurant is pretty dead. A bunch of waitresses are standing around. No one says anything to me. The lady behind the counter is talking to customers I think. I say excuse me do I seat myself. She says nasty "I will be with you in a moment." Not Hi, welcome to Olympic I will be right with you Sir. Then another lady shows up in a bit, with "Only a Party Of One"... I hate ONLY PARTY OF ONE... Do you say ONLY party of TWO? OK my Pet Peeve.

So the second lady takes me into dining area. Friday evening nearly empty dining area. I asked to be put in a quite place... SHE tries to seat me NEXT TO kitchen, clanking, bright light and main path for staff to go to & from kitchen and guest going to buffet/salad bar. I asked for a booth. but she put me at a table sufficiently far from the kitchen. Even though restaurant was 10% full, many good tables and booths were dirty. Frankly they were not bussed in the 40 mins I was there. The tables were dirty the whole time.

I waited a bit before being approached by server. The young lady who waited on me was personable, responded to my questions of suggestions, and I tipped her almost 50%. While waiting for food I went to use the men's restroom, closed for cleaning? More aggravation.

The burger and side was good... Prices are not a bargain but the burger was quality, so I was satisfied. The check out went OK.

First WHERE is the Manager? It would be a 4 star but that INITIAL contact with the unfriendly greeting, dirty dining room, closed restroom, feeling like I was not welcomed, like I bothered her asking if I seat myself, really peeved me off. The Staff also standing around at their order terminal, not far from, not acknowledging me...also rude. Despite the nice server and food, I am likely not going back.

PS Outside the driveway and parking lot are FULL of deep pot holes, big ones. Ridiculously bad conditions. Friday night at 7:30-8:00 dead? May be the rush is early, or people just don't go there. I was seconds from leaving and going to the Mexican restraint a few doors down. I think of the burger being good and just feeling like I was persona non grata. I was dressed nice, groomed hair, good hygiene and was treated like a homeless person with leprosy.

Food good, server was sweet and I tipped her well in cash 50%. I would not be surprised if this restaurant pools tips, takes tip percentage from servers. I worked my way through college as a waiter and financed 100% of my engineering degree. I know restaurants. In my professional life I travel and go to restaurants all over the world. This place needs managers on duty doing their job. No manager should let tables be dirty for almost an hour. You need to greet all guest when they walk in or train your staff how to be polite and friendly... It is called the Hospitality...

OAKLAND LOCATION DESERVES NO STARS!!! SERVICE LIKE THE MANAGER WHO WAS ON DUTY AT 2 P.M. SUNDAY, DECEMBER 31, 2023 IS BEYOND LUDICROUS. WE ORDERED OUR FOOD; ONE SALAD & BUFFET AND ONE $3.50 SALAD WITH ENTREE. THAT'S IT. MY FRIEND ATE HER DINNER AND AFTER WAITING FOR OVER AN HOUR I NEVER RECEIVED MY ENTREE - KABOBS. OVERHEARD SOMEONE SAY OUR SERVER WAS GONE ON BREAK AFTER I'D INQUIRED ABOUT MY ENTREE. THE SERVER STATED THEY'D GIVEN IT TO SOMEONE ELSE. NO APOLOGIES WERE RENDERED. FINALLY, AFTER BEING GROSSLY IGNORED WE DECIDE TO LEAVE. WE WERE NEVER GIVEN A RECEIPT. UPON APPROACHING THE REGISTER TO CHECK OUT WE OVERHEAR SIX STAFF MEMBERS, INCLUDING THE OVERPAID, UNPROFESSIONAL, GROSSLY NEGLIGENT MANAGER (ANY DIME THIS SO CALLED MANAGER, I USE THIS TERM EXTREMELY LIGHTLY, IS AN OVERPAYMENT) WHO WERE STANDING IDLY AROUND DOING ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO ASSIST CUSTOMERS TALKING ABOUT THE FACT I NEVER RECEIVED MY ENTREE. THEY LOOKED UPON US AS IF WE WERE ANIMALS AND LIED TO OUR FACES AND SAID OUR SERVER WAS WAITING IN THE BACK ON MY FOOD. RIGHT! WE TOLD THE CASHIER WHAT WE'D ORDERED, MY SALAD SHOULD HAVE BEEN $3.50 AS IT WAS PART OF AN ENTREE THAT I DID NOT GET. I WAS CHARGED THE FULL $9+ DOLLARS. AT THIS POINT THE JOKE OF A MANAGER WALKS OFF. A REAL MANAGER WOULD HAVE APOLOGIZED, CHARGED ME CORRECTLY OR COMP'D MY MEAL IN ITS ENTIRETY AS IT WASNT RECEIVED, OR AT THE VERY LEAST THANKED US FOR COMING. SHE DID WHAT SHE IS WORTH - N.O.T.H.I.N.G! WE DID NOT ARGUE WITH THE CASHIER BECAUSE SHE WAS CERTAINLY FOLLOWING THE EXAMPLE SET AND SHOWN BY THE HIGHLY IGNORANT MANAGER. I FAILED TO MENTION WE NEVER SAID A WORD ABOUT THE DIRTY DISHES WITH STUCK ON FOOD AT THE SALAD BAR, THE SKIMPY ASSORTMENT OF CHOICES, DIRTY FLOORS AND ETC. CORPORATE OFFICE THIS IS ONE LOCATION THAT SHOULD BE CLOSED UNTIL YOU'RE FIT TO SERVE, FIND EMPLOYEES THAT TAKE PRIDE IN THEIR JOBS, EXEMPLIFY CUSTOMER SERVICE, COURTESY AND SUPPORT AND ALL OF THIS STARTS WITH MANAGEMENT WHICH THIS LOCATION DOES NOT HAVE! MANAGER SHAME ON YOU! YOU'RE AN EMBARRASSMENT TO ALL RESTAURANT MANAGERS WHO VALUE THEIR CUSTOMERS. I am very unhappy about my experience here yesterday. I met my sister here for lunch. We got here at 1. They have a lunch buffet until 2. When we went to make our plates there were 5 or 6 men making their plates. We noticed there wasn't much food left so we decided to make a small salad to eat while they restocked the hot food. When we finished our salad we walked back to the buffet and there still wasn't anything brought out. When the waitress came to our table to get our salad plates my sister told her there wasn't anything out to eat. She went to the kitchen came back out and said they were putting more meat out but because the buffet would be closing at 2 that'd be it. We went back again still nothing out. The waitress was walking by my sister told her there still isn't anything out there. The waitress goes and gets another lady to come to our table. She tells us they're putting more meat out my sister said well what about macaroni and cheese or potatoes or cobbler. That lady goes to the kitchen comes back and says we're out of macaroni and cheese but I can bring you some potatoes and they're going to put cobbler out because other people are waiting for it too. We said ok thank you. She never brought potatoes out to us. They never put any more meat out. Then she comes back to our table and tells us the cobbler is out. They did ask if we wanted to order something from the menu but by that time we were pretty upset so we said no just charge us for a salad. Our salad was very small because we thought we would be eating other food and didn't want to get full. They charged us $9 each for a $3 salad. Just ridiculous. I will...
