Peet's Coffee — Restaurant in Oakland

I went to the store on August 14, 2024, in the morning before taking my daughter to school. Upon arriving, there were only two people in line in front of me. The first customer was placing his order at the register and the second was waiting to do the same. The first customer took a while to order, then moved aside to wait for his coffee. The second customer then ordered and also waited for his drink. However, the employee didn't acknowledge me or say they'll be with me shortly, so after waiting for almost five minutes with my daughter, we left as I had to get her to school.

I returned after dropping off my daughter and found a bit more of a line, with only one cashier and some employees seemingly idle. I waited for about 10 minutes to place my order. The employee at the register was chatting with another worker, while the person making drinks was washing things and someone else appeared to be aimlessly wandering. People who had ordered before me were still waiting for their drinks, and it took nearly 7 minutes for me to receive my drink. The employees were once again talking and not focused on working efficiently despite the busy store.

I’ve never had the urge to leave a review at a Peets Coffee shop before. I just had the most amazing experience. I bought a Chemex drip coffee maker along with some filters and two bags of coffee. At first I wasn’t sure what to buy, luckily I happened to come across one of the most knowledgeable coffee connoisseurs I’ve ever met. I was super impressed with their knowledge, conversational skills, and how patient they were with me. I have auditory issues sometimes and they made me feel extremely comfortable even though there were moments I had trouble understanding or comprehending certain things that were being said. I don’t remember their name unfortunately but I do remember that they had a blue shirt on and they were very kind. If you know who I am talking about they definitely deserve a raise as they seem to be a key employee. Inexperienced staff can make your day. I’ve not been to Peet’s for a long time but I felt like having my favorite cappuccino in their Piedmont Ave location in Oakland. So I ordered cappuccino but midway thru drinking it, I realized it doesn’t taste like cappuccino at all. Not only that, it came in a mug rather than a cappuccino cup even when I ordered a small one. My wife convinced me to return the drink and ask for a cappuccino like they have it in Italy. There ensued a long discussion with the barista and they say they can’t accommodate me. They can ask the Manager if I want but she was in her office so I said don’t bother anymore. Anyway I won’t come back anymore.
