if your food comes out wrong don't expect them to take it off... won't bore you with too much of the details, came in for my friends birthday on saturday when they first opened and got sat after 20 minutes, server with the LONG BLACK HAIR AND A SHOULDER TATTOO OF FLOWERS greeted us and took our drink orders. ordered some drinks from the bar (she DIDN't card anyone at the table so if you're underaged this place is great for you to drink) after the drinks were dropped she took half of the tables order and then said she'd be back in a few minutes to take the rest. 45 minutes later she came back to take the rest of the order and retake the orders she already took. almost 2 hours later we received our food and we did not see her. my guess is that she was already gonna get the added gratuity and she decided not to bother too much with our table. my food came out cold and didn't taste right, my friend sent our server over to the table but by then everyone was pretty much done with their food. i SO SO SO SO VERY KINDLY told her it was cold and didn't taste good, i asked for it to be taken off but i said i would gladly pay for the sides i already ate and she looked at me like i killed her cat. she told me there was no way it was cold because it came right off of the pan. then proceeded to ask me if i knew how salmon was cooked/tasted, then explained to me how it was cooked. i work as a server as well and i was so confused and uncomfortable, i rarely ever send anything back (and won't ever do it again) so i just told her it was fine. i was also confused because she asked me a few times if i wanted anything else and even offered me free alcohol but wouldn't take off the food ? we got the bill and the food THAT I DIDNT EAT was still on there, my friend asked for the manager but they told us she was the manager and i could tell the workers were talking about my table and looking at me. i didn't wanna be harassed anymore so i decided not to press the issue anymore and pay. I PUT MY SHARE DOWN, I PAID FOR THE FOOD I DID NOT EAT PLUS TIP. i walk my friend to her car and go back to my car, some of the party was still in the restaurant and when the server was counting the cash, it happened to be short the exact price of my meal (coincidentally). she said, "that c*nt" didn't go up to the people that were still inside AND WALKED OUT TO MY CAR, B LINED FOR ME AND SAID I DIDNT PAY FOR MY FOOD WHEN I PUT MY MONEY DOWN FOR MY FOOD AND TIP. i've been scarred and will never sent anything back ever again and will not be coming back here. only recommend it if you're underage and...
Read moreBistro Punahele Tonnelier, what can I say... I just found my favorite restaurant in my Area. If you haven't been, you are missing out on so much flavor. We just got back from almost a month in paradise and I've been missing the flavors that Hawaii brings. I've finally found my little slice of heaven , right here in the heart of Oakley. My man got the stuffed french toast. It was delectable. The candied bacon and the pecans on top was the icing on the cake and gave a perfect juxtaposition to the sweet flavor of the toast. No one even serves stuffed french toast out here and I promise not like this, not as delicious.
Since I have spoiled eating from those authenticly Hawaiian shrimp trucks, I was craving some authentic Hawaiian flavors and didn't think it was possible to achieve it here in the Eastbay. To my taste buds delight, I was wrong. My waiter recommended the garlic shrimp with the coconut rice. It was 10000% the right decision. My shrimp was so flavorful and cooked perfectly. The meat itself was sweet and juicy and the pflavors of the coconut rice and Portuguese sausage came together for a tastebud symphony. It's ALL GOOD.
Libations.. don't even get me started. The drinks are simple yet next level in flavor. Every single drink I here had by tastebuds feeling like I'm back on the beaches of Maui. The sangria with lilikoi was sooooooooo good. try it if your into sweet. The Pahala sweet tea though, it's definitely next level. The subtle taste mint comes though afterward and keeps it so refreshing. I definitely recommend getting a few drinks while here. You're doing disjustice to yourself if you don't.
Aside from the awesome food and drinks , Bistro Punahele Tonnelier has excellent service and ambiance. The vibe here def brings you back to islands, the ferns, the chicken. It's like I never left Hawaii. Which brings me to the next point. The staff and owners definitely bring the ohana spirit. My food came quickly and everything that was recommended was perfect. It was my first time in and I already feel like they are family.
I feel like experiences like this are far and few out here. Why have I not discovered this place sooner? I can tell by the quality and experience here, that they have worked hard to hone thier craft. I haven't written a review this detailed in years because no local establishment seemed worthy of one, untill Bistro Punahele Tonnelier. So do yourself a favor and make it point to stop by this gem. At Bistro Punahele Tonnelier you can have your slice of paradise without getting on a...
Read moreFirst time here. Have been wanting to go for a long time. Wait time wasn’t bad for a place with great reviews. My husband and I were seated in about 15 minutes or so. We only ordered water so we placed our order very quickly. We were both hungry and figured out what we wanted fast. We waited for at least 30 -40 minutes for our orders. My husband ordered the salmon spinach omelette and potatoes and I ordered the stuffed berry French toast. We were disappointed to see that so many of the customers who were seated even after us were served well before us. One party even got their check before we got our food. I recently (one week ago) had major ankle surgery and am in a half leg cast. I am only able to be up without having my foot elevated for so long, so I was getting a little uncomfortable by the end of our meal and couldn’t wait to get back home. We did not want our wait to impact our opinion of the food since we have been looking forward to trying this place for so long. Unfortunately my husband’s order came out wrong, with fried rice instead of potatoes. They took it back and came back within seconds with potatoes. Those were as was the omelette hardly warm. He also did not expect both the potatoes and omelette to be covered in grilled onion. The onion was noted on the menu but it was piled on and wasn’t quite the right flavor with smoked salmon. Being that it was so much on all of his meal, it was just a little overpowering. My stuffed French toast was lacking the stuffed component. It was unfortunately just two slices of “meh” quality thin sandwich bread with a spoonful of fruit preserves spread in between, soaked in egg and fried. I thought there would be some chunks of fruit maybe. The bread was very soggy, and there was nothing I would typically consider fruit or stuffed about it. The restaraunt itself is very nice. The atmosphere is enjoyable and we will certainly visit again to try...
