Cake House Design is one of the best spots to get “caked up”.
When Rihanna released the song Birthday Cake, people thought the lyrics were about a woman’s glutes. What everyone doesn’t realize is that she was actually singing about her birthday cake from Cake House Design. But don’t let the name fool you—this bakery serves top tier desserts that go way beyond cake. Cannolis, cobblers, cheesecakes, cookies, cupcakes, they’ve got it all! And yes, even desserts whose names don’t start with the a C. The best part? Nearly every dessert is so good, you’d swear they specialize only in the one you just had ate.
But as much as I love to sing their praises about all of the desserts here, the dessert that inspired Rihanna’s “Birthday Cake” is the one that left the deepest impression: the salted caramel cake. I’m usually a diehard chocolate lover, but despite having enough chocolate-based sweets here to satisfy even the chocolate-screaming fish from SpongeBob, it was the salted caramel cake that I was still salivating over long after I had left. The buttercream. The base. The brilliance of this cake was boundless. And after 30 years of being a proud sugar addict, I can confidently say it’s the best salted caramel cake I’ve ever eaten.

Read morePLEASE READ This bakery does not care about its customers. In the end, all they care about is taking your money. The process of ordering our wedding cake was normal, no problems. However, they made two errors on our wedding cake order. First, one of the flavors was incorrect. We requested German Chocolate and received white cake. Second, we had a unique color scheme for the cake and essentially the top tier was white and the bottom two tiers black. We received an all black cake. I called a few days after our honeymoon to speak to the manager. It took Lyndsay a week to call me back. During this phone call, she did apologize and admitted that they failed to transcribe the email order to paper order correctly. She said she would talk to her associate about a refund, adding “we’re a business and we still have to make money.” Quote! She said she’d call me back and to this day have never received her call, just emails that she literally takes weeks to reply. I had to negotiate our refund twice with her. This process took so long (5 weeks) that they managed to change credit card machines and couldn’t refund my credit card, but had to mail a check (which took her an additional week to send). While this bakery has amazing cake, their customer service is unacceptable. They received their money and that’s all...
Read moreSometimes less is more. The items at this cake shop are a little too much for me. I'm still giving 4 stars because I don't think the quality or service was bad. It's more of a personal preference for me. I would say that this cake shop seems to rely too heavily on sugar instead of letting genuine flavors speak for themselves. If the sugar was toned down a bit, I think the products could be really delicious. I will say that the espresso cheesecake was amazing with the exception of the overly sugary crust.
Update: unfortunately, I am taking off 2 stars. My sister ordered chocolate and banana cupcakes with vanilla icing for my nephew's birthday and they were the worst cupcakes I've ever had. The banana cupcakes had an overly fakey flavor, possibly way too much banana extract and not enough actual bananas. The icing was gritty and flavorless. You could hear the grit when you put your fork into it. The icing tasted like all they used was water and sugar. Even my 10 year old nephew said they were bad and usually kids are happy with any type of sugar....
