The Gyro Company - South County — Restaurant in Oakville

There are a bunch of gyro places in and around St Louis and few of those have really stood out for us. I blame the taste of Middle East for spoiling our taste buds. Nothing beats it, but we definitely have had pretty close dishes. The Gyro Company is one such place.

The service is friendly and quick. The place is clean and tidy and the food has always had us grinning.

We’ve gotten their supreme gyros, doner kebabs, and their falafels. Their falafels are our least favorite. They lacked salt both times, had little to no crunch, and very small in size for what we paid. We’d absolutely recommend their doner kebabs. They are generous in portions and hits the spot. The meat is just rightly cut, is flavorful, and comes packed with fresh lettuce, onions, and tomatoes. The lepinja bread isn’t doused in butter which is great because it’s light and airy tasting. You could never tell it was made using yogurt so if you have a dairy free diet this could be heads-up for you!

Forced to buy Hummus appetizer. I asked for the individual taking order to substitute hummus on my gyro instead of the white sauce (that I do not like). I have asked if this before and on multiple occasions and this was not an issue. However, now I was told that substitute was not possible and I would have to buy an entire appetizer. I almost walked out with no order as this was rather easy request and forced me to spend more than I wanted. However, I was craving a falafel with hummus and the food has always been good and will be today. However, and again I've eaten at this location several times and never been denied this request. I know it is simple but I feel like a simple request of sub hummus should be easy to accommodate. No reason to force an up sell. I'll be back eventually but I won't be happy paying $6 extra dollars just to enjoy...

I have been passing by this place for years and today (10/13/21) I went ahead and stop to grab some lunch on the way home.

I walked in and told the guy behind the computer. That I have never had one before and ask what he would recommend. He recommended the Supreme so I got one. The other guy behind the grill over heard us talking about it and gave me a small sample of the meat and cheese to make sure I would like it. And by all the Gods this gyro was fantastic.

Since its my first one I can't compare it to anything else but it was freaking great. The two guys there helped me and made sure I was taken care of. 5 stars, 10 stars, stop reading this go get one one. I'm going to take a nap.
